Twits Notes: World Series (3/14)
Neverwinter d. Oceanus 4 games to 2
First of all, I want
to thank everyone for inviting me into the league. Everyone has been
great to talk to and play against. I’d especially like to thank Tom for
all the help during the pre-season and beyond
assisting me in getting a clue about strat. I’ve been playing
rotisserie baseball for 30 years and had seen strat a few times at both
Tom’s place and Jeff’s, but never realized the depth involved in
managing a team. I’ve enjoyed my first year as a manager
and would have been just as happy finishing in 8th place,
but lady luck was on my side down the stretch, getting me into the
playoffs and pushing the Alpaca’s into the playoffs. I hope I did Jeff
proud playing the team he built over the past decade,
winning in year one. I must have had some divine guidance to allow the
Alpaca’s to visit the promise land.
Sincerely.

Twit Notes plus my add below.
Game 1: Oceanus over Neverwinter 13 – 5
The Assholes jumped on Morton early and often at Rehoboth. After Bell tied it up in the 2nd inning, the Assholes scored seven in the next four innings. The Alpaca’s tried to make a game of it
with a three spot in the 8th, but a four spot in the bottom
sealed the deal. The Assholes exposed the porous Alpaca defense adding
to the pain for Neverwinter. Morton stuck it out like a trooper
pitching all eight innings saving his bullpen.
Strasburg got the win.
In an embarrassing outing for the Neverwinter Alpacas pitching staff, Oceanus
Assholes flexed their collective muscle amassing 13 runs as Stephen
Strasburg(1-0), with relief help from Ryan Yarbrough, allowed Neverwinter 5
runs.
Brett Gardner made sure the Oceanus fans enjoyed themselves. He belted a
three-run homer in the 2nd inning, lashed a single in the 4th inning and
tripled resulting in a run in the 5th inning. Oceanus out-hit Neverwinter
for the game, 17 hits to 8.
Charlie Morton(0-1) was the loser. He served up 3 homeruns in his 8 innings.
Game 2: Alpaca’s 5 – 4 in 10 innings over the Assholes
The Alpaca’s tied up the series heading back home with a hard earned split. Four solo homeruns in this game, including a ninth inning blast by Mike Tauchman off Asshole closer Wendelken. The rally allows the Alpaca’s to head home with the split they wanted. Lucas Giolito pitched well for the first 5 innings. Gallegos the Alpaca closer pitched a perfect 1-2-3 10th with 2 strikeouts for the save.
The Neverwinter Alpacas and the Oceanus Assholes locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Rehoboth Parking Lot. The final score was the Neverwinter
Alpacas 5, the Oceanus Assholes 4 in 10 innings.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Neverwinter won it in the 10th
inning. Yoan Moncada drew a walk. Alex Bregman was next and he lined a
base-hit. Freddie Freeman then doubled scoring the run. Neverwinter managed
10 hits in their victory.
Kenta Maeda(1-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Maeda was helped out by Giovanny Gallegos who recorded his 1st save. Alex
Colome(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 2 hits
without retiring a batter.
Game 3: Oceanus over Neverwinter 12 – 7
Another high scoring affair at Icewind Dale Corral. Despite hitting five homers, the Alpaca’s couldn’t overcome the early deficit. Once again the gamy Alpaca’s tried to rally, but cutting the lead to three with their fifth homerun of the game, only to see the deficit expand to five after two unearned runs in the top of the 8th inning. Brebbia shut down the Alpaca’s to secure the win for Oceanus with two shutout innings.
Mitch Garver cracked a homer and had 3 RBI at Icewind Dale Corral as the
Oceanus Assholes beat the Neverwinter Alpacas by the count of 12 to
7.
Oceanus came up with 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning when they had 5 base
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Garver who quieted the crowd
when he smacked a three-run homer. Even though they scored in 5 different
innings, Neverwinter was not able to pull off the win.
John Brebbia(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Mike
Minor(0-1) was the losing pitcher. Oceanus scored big getting 6 runs off him
in 2 innings.
Game 4: Alpaca’s 13 – 4 over the Assholes
The Alpaca’s broke a close game open in the 6th putting up an eight spot, driving Strasburg from the game. The Asshole bullpen didn’t help their cause as the Alpaca faithful were treated to an impressive barrage. Morton determined to make up for his poor performance in game 1, K’d 12 over seven innings. Regular season batting champ Yoan Moncada had a great game for the Alpaca’s, including a homerun. Series is tied up at 2, down to a best of three, with only one more game in Neverwinter.
Charlie Morton reeled off a total of 12 strikeouts and Yoan Moncada had 4 hits
and scored 3 times at Icewind Dale Corral where the Neverwinter Alpacas beat
the Oceanus Assholes 13 to 4.
Morton(1-1) had a solid outing for Neverwinter. He went 7 innings allowing 7
hits and 2 walks and gave up 2 homeruns. Neverwinter had 15 hits overall,
while Oceanus had 8.
The losing pitcher was Stephen Strasburg(1-1). He served up 3 gopher balls in
5 innings. The Neverwinter fans were thrilled by the performance put forth
by Morton, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he
reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud
cheer.' Sam said following the game.
Game 5: Alpaca’s 5 – 2 over the Assholes
In a relatively low scoring affair, the Alpaca’s sent the home fans home happy. Three homers helped pace the Neverwinter offense. Lucas Giolito pitched a strong 6 and 2/3 allowing only 2 runs and 1 homer. Josh Bell continues his hot post season hammering two more long balls in support of Giolito. The Alpaca bullpen did the rest not allowing a baserunner to send the Alpaca’s to Rehoboth needing only one win in the hitter friendly park.
Josh Bell smacked 2 homeruns at Icewind Dale Corral where the Neverwinter
Alpacas beat the Oceanus Assholes 5 to 2.
Neverwinter took the lead for keeps in the 5th inning plating one baserunner.
Neverwinter took care of Oceanus with no trouble in the 9th.
The victory was credited to Lucas Giolito(1-0) who went 6 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 2 runs. The loss was charged to Walker Buehler(0-1). He allowed 3
homeruns in 5 innings of work.
Game 6: Alpaca’s 13 – 7 over the Assholes
Mike Minor pitched well as the Assholes tried using an opener which backfired on them. Bedrosian hot hit hard and didn’t make it out of the 1st as the Alpaca’s bats came to life. Homers by Moncada, 2 by Bregman plus one for Yaz paced Alpaca’s. The Assholes did score six runs in the final three innings but their would be heroic comeback fell short. Rumor has it the team, after yet another world series defeat may be heading to Buffalo. Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and Scott Norwood are being brought in on a consultation basis.
Shortstop Alex Bregman slammed 2 homeruns as the Neverwinter Alpacas beat the
Oceanus Assholes by a score of 13 to 7.
Bregman was really in 'the zone'. He blasted a two-run home run in the 1st
inning and caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th
inning. Neverwinter had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in
6 separate innings.
Mike Minor(1-1) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Cam
Bedrosian(0-1) was the loser. He gave up 3 hits and no walks in 1/3 of an
inning.
Playoffs (3/7):
In a nutshell, Oceanus defeated Haiku Aggression in 7. The series
featured fuck-ups and controversy and tight games and blowouts and extra
innings and a computer freeze and various "Strat-O Moments."
Game 1 OCE 5 HAI 4 (10 innings)
A
game that is lost to history because of my fuck up. I should have
explicitly saved it but instead game 2 overwrote the box score. It was a
come-from-behind victory for the Assholes. Justin Verlander, who shut
Oceanus out in the final series of the season, was pitching masterfully
again. I believe when he left Haiku Aggression had a 4-1 lead. But
Ryan Pressley (a reversed righty) was brought in to face one of my
left-handed hitters. I pinch-hit Byron Buxton, who hit a 3-run homer to
tie the score. In the bottom of the tenth Asdrubal Cabrera got a
game-winning single.
Game 2 HAI 11 OCE 6
The
Assholes jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 2 innings and were feeling
pretty smug. But Haiku Aggression scored 5 runs in the top of the 3rd
to tie the game. It was 7-6 Haiku Aggression after 4 but HAI added a
run in the 8th and 3 in the 9th and Oceanus had no response. Yordan
Alvarez hit 2 homers for Haiku Aggression to counter the 2 homers that
Matt Olson hit for Oceanus. The HAI bullpen pitched 5 2/3 innings of
2-hit ball, allowing only 1 run. Aaron Bummer got the win in relief and
Ryan Yarbrough was tagged with the loss. Neither starter (Mike Soroka
HAI and Walker Buehler OCE) was effective.
Game 3 OCE 8 HAI 7
The
series moved to Three Line Park (?) where Oceanus pulled out a
controversial come-from-behind win. Haiku Aggression had a 7-4 lead
coming in to the top of the 9th. Brandon Workman came in for HAI and
promptly gave up 2 solo shots and a walk. With 2 outs, Eric gave me
control but realized he wanted to bring in the aforementioned Ryan
Pressley. So I said, fine, we'll just disregard whatever the result
is. Without remembering that..you can't undo the last out of the game.
Eric did remember...but only after I'd (virtually) rolled the dice. Of
course it was an out. So, we decided to play dice and cards. Which
took a little while to get set up. I brought in Brett Gardner to face
Pressley. Not a great matchup for me, but the best I could do. I
rolled the dice and got a 1-9, which is a HR, and took an 8-7 lead. I
should have gotten my wife to witness the roll. I took a picture of it
but still...it felt very controversial. Eric accepted the result with
equanimity. J.B. Wendelken pitched a perfect bottom of the 9th for the
save. The game featured 5 HRs for each team.
Game 4 HAI 6 OCE 3
The
Assholes jumped quickly into the lead 1-0 in the top of the first. But
Haiku Aggression tied the game after 2 innings. And HAI just kept
piling on. It was 6-1 headed into the top of the ninth. A 2-run homer
by Mitch Garver made things slightly interesting but Josh Hader settled
down to secure the victory. Another brilliant game from Justin
Verlander. Only 3 hits and 1 run allowed in 8 innings. Stephen
Strasburg was tagged with the loss. He pitched only so-so. Nolan
Arenado hit 2 homers for HAI.
Game 5 OCE 5 HAI 2
This
game was a see saw battle for a little while as Oceanus took a 1-0 lead
in the first inning, Haiku Aggression went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of
the 2nd and Oceanus tied it up in the top of the 3rd. From there, HAI
stopped hitting and the Assholes tacked on singleton runs in the 5th,
6th and 7th inning for the win. Walker Buehler, who'd been roughed up
in game 2, pitched 8 innings of 4-hit ball for the win. Alex Colome and
J.B. Wendelken pitched a scoreless 9th to secure the victory (Wendelken
got the 1/3 inning save). Max Kepler homered for Oceanus and Omar
Narvaez for Haiku Aggression. Kepler had 4 RBI.
Game 6 HAI 17 OCE 2
Haiku
Aggression treated Aaron Nola rudely by scoring 4 runs in the first
inning on homers from Alvarez and Narvaez. But Oceanus countered with a
home run from Kepler to make it 4-2. And missed a ballpark homer
(1-19) that would have tied it. So it felt like a ballgame. But it was
all HAI after that. Including a 7-run 9th inning to turn it from a
mere rout to an epic blowout. HAI hit 6 homers in the game, including 2
by Cody Bellinger. The HAI bullpen pitched 5 innings of 2-hit
scoreless ball. Josh Hader got the win for his stellar 2 innings of
work (0 hits 0 walks 4 strikeouts). I should also mention that Eric
missed a ballpark homer as well. So the score probably should have been
19-4 instead of 17-2....
Game 7 OCE 5 HAI 4
As
many predicted it came down to a game 7. Xander Bogaerts led off the
game with a homer and Haiku Aggression was up 3-0 after an inning and a
half and with Verlander on the mound the mood in the Asshole dugout was
grim. But in the bottom of the 2nd Oceanus scraped a couple of runs
together on RBI singles from Jose Altuve and Michael (Why Can't I Get
Players Like That) Brantley. HAI responded with a Bellinger homer in
the top of the 3rd and OCE countered with a Trevor Story homer in the
bottom of the 3rd. Stephen Strasburg, the ineffective Asshole starter,
was pulled after 3 1/3 innings having allowed all 4 runs (1 unearned). A
key play was Eric trying to score on what I believe was a 1-13 chance
that would have made the game 5-3. I think the split was a 17. At any
rate, given the final score, that was quite consequential. From there,
the Oceanus bullpen pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only 3
hits and 0 walks. Wendelken got the save. The HAI bullpen was
brilliant as well, pitching 4 2/3 scoreless innings allowing only 3 hits
and 0 walks.
Neverwinter d. North Dakota 4 games to 1.
Great series, crazy game three in the Corral. Alpaca's chase Corbin and
build a huge 9 - 2 lead, only to have Minor chased after a grand slam
by Goldschmidt in the 4th inning, but hold on to the 1 run lead to win.
Bell had a great series and Giolito pitched
11 shutout innings over two games to lead the Alpacas.
Game 1: Neverwinter wins 5 - 2.
Josh Bell had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Charlie Morton dominated striking out 12 North Dakota batters at Gackle Park as the Neverwinter Alpacas beat the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads
5 to 2. Bell had a big day against North Dakota. He doubled in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning, launched a three-run homer in the 5th inning and doubled
in the 7th inning. Neverwinter banged out 10 hits on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Morton(1-0) who went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs. Morton got help from Tommy Kahnle who was credited with his 1st save. Jacob Degrom(0-1) was
the loser. Despite losing, he struckout 12 Neverwinter batters in 9 innings.
Morton was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.'
Game 2: Alpaca's win 6 - 5 in 12 innings.
Lucas Giolito came through with a solid 5 innings at Gackle Park where the Neverwinter Alpacas beat the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads in 12 innings by the
score of 6 to 5. The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Finally, Neverwinter pulled the game out in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Mike Tauchman
blasted a solo shot. Neverwinter had 9 hits for the afternoon while North Dakota had 5.
The win went to John Means(1-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Shane Bieber(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 1 hit and
no walks.
Game 3: Alpaca'a win 10 - 9
Josh Bell lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI at Icewind Dale Corral where the Neverwinter Alpacas beat the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads 10 to
9. Neverwinter drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when they tallied 4 runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Mike Yastrzemski
who made the Neverwinter fans a happy lot when he bombed a two-run dinger. North Dakota threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The victory was credited to Tyler Clippard(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. Clippard was helped out by Giovanny Gallegos who recorded his
1st save. Patrick Corbin (0-1) took the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 2 innings of work.
Game 4: North Dakota wins 5 - 0
Francisco Lindor had 4 hits and Jacob Degrom reeled off a total of 13strikeouts at Icewind Dale Corral as the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads
beat the Neverwinter Alpacas by the count of 5 to 0.
Degrom (1-1) escaped virtually unscathed against the Neverwinter hitters. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 4.00 to 2.00.
North Dakota rapped out 11 hits for the night. Charlie Morton (1-1) was hit with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. 'Degrom
took our guys to school' Sam said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!'
Game 5: Neverwinter wins 1 - 0
At Icewind Dale Corral, the Neverwinter faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Lucas Giolito (1-0) finally
bested his North Dakota counterpart, Lance Lynn (0-1), by the score of 1 to 0.
Neverwinter scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning. North Dakota went down without a fight in the 9th.
Giolito got relief help from Giovanny Gallegos who gained credit for his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Lynn. He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits
and 4 walks.
Sam
(2/28) If Eric had been swept by Jed, we
would have had a 4-way tie for fourth place. (Yes, the bylaws
have provisions for this). But that did not happen, Eric
split and finishes in 4th place. The first round of the
playoffs are both rematches: both series (NV vs ND and OC vs
HA) played today.
Bay City lost a 17-inning game to New Orleans to end their
seasons, as both teams had their last pitcher in. New
Orleans' last pitcher, Taylor Rogers, was the winning pitcher
with his arm having fallen off.
FW took the first three games against
Tom, but came up 2 runs short in the final game of the series,
ending the season for both teams.
Alex Bregman was the star for Neverwinter in its split with
the Nuclear Warheads with 2 timely homers and 5 rbis in the
series.
Yoan Moncada wins the batting crown at .360. Alonso has the
most homers with 26, and Yelich wins the rbi crown over Nelson
Cruz by 1, 56-55. Cruz also finished 2nd in batting (.353).
Strasburg had the most wins with 9 (9-2), and Verlander wins
the ERA crown (3.34)
Draft Day, April 3, 2021
(2/21) Neverwinter
regained third place earlier tonight, taking 3 of 4 over last place New
Orleans. With just one weekend of games remaining in the regular
season, 5 teams are still mathematically in the race for the final two
playoff spots.
Two close games
and two not so close games. Homeruns were flying out of the Corral per
usual in the chill of the night in Neverwinter.
Game 1: Neverwinter over New Orleans 4 – 2
Third baseman Yoan Moncada went yard and Charlie Morton whiffed 12
batters as the Neverwinter Alpacas topped the reeling New Orleans Ellis
by a score of 4
to 2 at Icewind Dale Corral. Morton(6-2) had a solid outing for
Neverwinter. He was reached for 7 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.
Giovanny Gallegos pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 8th
save.
Sandy Alcantara(1-5) suffered the loss. Sam was asked about the
performance of Morton, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The
fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that
seems to give him even more adrenalin.
Game 2: Neverwinter over New Orleans 5 – 4 in 12 innings. J.T. Realmuto
had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Icewind Dale Corral as the Neverwinter
Alpacas beat the struggling New Orleans Ellis in 12 innings 5 to 4. The
score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Neverwinter ended up winning
it in the 12th inning. Bo Bichette ripped a base-knock. Hanser
Alberto was the next batter, but he struck out. Lorenzo Cain got his
turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. David Dahl followed next and
he lashed a single, and an error was also committed. Realmuto came to
the plate and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Ronald Acuna
added to the uprising and was hit by a pitch making Neverwinter the
victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Both teams finished
the game with 8 hits.
The win was credited to Tyler Clippard(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing
no runs. Taylor Rogers(1-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run
and 2 hits in 1 inning.
Game 3: Neverwinter over New Orleans 7 – 3. The Neverwinter Alpacas
plated 4 runs in the 3rd inning and readily handled reeling New Orleans
Ellis by a score of 7 to 3 at Icewind Dale Corral. Neverwinter came up
with 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they came up with 4
base hits. That early run support was all that Mike Minor(2-8)
required. Neverwinter finished with 8 hits in the victory. Aroldis
Chapman recorded the save, his 1st. Sonny Gray(0-6) suffered the loss.
He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks.
Game 4: New Orleans over Neverwinter 7 – 2. Yasmani Grandal launched 2
homeruns and had 3 RBI as the New Orleans Ellis outscored the
Neverwinter Alpacas 7 to 2.
Grandal enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger
in the 2nd inning and blasted a solo shot in the 4th inning. New
Orleans had 9 hits for the night while Neverwinter had 4. The win was
credited to Hyun-Jin Ryu(3-3) who went 6 innings allowing no runs. Lucas
Giolito(4-4) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks
in 6 innings.
Draft Day, Saturday, April 3, 2021
(2/18) Tom
closed to within one game of a playoff spot earlier tonight, defeating
erstwhile 3rd place Eric 3 out of 4 to tighten up the standings.
But the story of the night came from the FW-NO series:
A
bizarre series ended in a split. In Game 3, FW had the winning run on
3rd in the bottom of the 15th inning, when the computer ended the game
on a bogus wild pitch. This happened to Robin and Sam a few weeks ago
and they finished the game with cards and dice and thankfully it ended
one batter later.
Randy
and Harold did not have it so easy. The actual result was NO winning
6-4 in 18 innings. Randy manually set up the line ups and situation
above in an unscheduled game where the bottom of the 1st corresponded to the bottom of the 15th,
and they played it out from there. I will have to input that game by
hand tomorrow as there is no way to "undo" a win once the game has been
loaded.
Randy adds "So many weird things happened in this series, but we are the last place teams, so…"
Twits from CN's series:
Game 1: Right fielder Cody Bellinger knocked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI
and Justin Verlander struck out 14 batters at Building 19 Park as the
Haiku Aggression
ballclub beat the Constantinople Manatees by the count of 12 to 4.
Bellinger enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for
a two-run home run in the 1st inning, rifled a three-run blast in the
2nd inning and smacked a single in the 7th inning. Haiku Aggression
simply wore out the Constantinople pitching staff, scoring in 6
different innings. The win went to Verlander(7-3) who allowed 4 runs in
8 innings. Jose Urquidy(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He served up 4
homeruns in his 5 innings. 'I had my good stuff tonight.' Verlander
said. 'As the game went along I started to get the feeling that I was
going to strike out a bunch of
hitters.'
Game 2: In a two run game the Constantinople Manatees got by the Haiku
Aggression club by the score of 4 to 2. Constantinople came up with 2
runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The crucial at-bat was provided
by Rafael Devers who electrified Building 19 Park when he cleared the
fences for a two-run home run. Despite losing,
Haiku Aggression out-hit Constantinople 9 to 5. Luis Castillo(3-4) went
7 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Will Harris recorded his 3rd
save. Mike Soroka(5-7) suffered the loss. He pitched 4 and 2/3 innings
giving up 3 hits and 4 walks.
Game 3: Rafael Devers knocked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Building 19
Park as the Constantinople Manatees, running on all cylinders, ripped
the Haiku Aggression
ballclub by a large 17 to 7 margin. The home town fans were very
appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Devers. He
clubbed a two-run home run in the 5th inning and blasted a two-run home
run in the 7th inning. Constantinople bats were hot in the 2nd inning
tallying 5 runs and the 4th inning which saw them score 7 runs on 4
hits. Constantinople finished with 16 hits while Haiku Aggression ended
up with 9. The win went to Marcus Walden(2-1) who allowed no runs in 2
innings. Jack Flaherty(6-3) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for
3 homeruns in his 4 innings of work.
Game 4: Miguel Sano slammed 2 homeruns at Building 19 Park where the
Constantinople Manatees beat the Haiku Aggression ballclub 7 to 5. In
the 7th inning Constantinople scored 2 runs. The biggest moment was
provided by Rafael Devers who made the Constantinople fans a happy lot
when he clubbed a two-run home run. Constantinople managed 8 hits in
their victory. The win went to Kirby Yates(4-3) who allowed no runs in 3
innings. The loss was charged to Aaron Bummer(0-1) in relief. He
surrendered 2 runs and 2 hits without retiring a batter.
Draft Day, Saturday April 3
(2/14) After
Future Wax beat North Dakota 4-2 in their first game on Saturday
(Springer with a homer and 3 rbis, Lugo with his 9th save), it not only
meant that slumping North Dakota had now lost 9 of its last 13 games, it
also clinched first place for Oceanus.
But the Nuclear Warheads ended their slump by winning the next three
games over FW by a combined score of 29-12. Game 2 was a 10-1 laugher.
Yelich, now 2nd in the league with 20 homers and 51 rbis, had 2 homers
and 4 rbis in this one. Shane (not Justin) Bieber scattered 5 hits and
one run over 8 innings to improve his record to 6-3, 3.58.
The final score of game 3 was 7-5, but the game was not really that
close. North Dakota was up 7-0 midway through the 8th inning, thanks in
part to a 3-run homer by Brandon Lowe and a 2-run shot by Pete
Alonso(his 24th) off of Max Scherzer (now 3-3, 5.28). Colin Poche could
not get out of the 8th inning as FW scored three times and Osuna was
not much better. In the 9th, FW scored twice more but it was too little
too late as ND brought in closer Liam Hendricks with the 4-run lead and
he eventually stopped the rally to preserve the win as Randy made Arnie
sweat a little.
In game 4, the Nuclear Warheads had all the rolls, while the Wax missed
several ballpark homers of their own. The result was a 12-7 North
Dakota win in which they outhomered FW 6-3. Yelich, Goldschimdt,
Alonso, Lindor, Edman, and Cntreras all homered for ND, while
Merrifield, Springer and Chapman all homered for FW. For the series,
FW's Merrifield was 5 for 13 (.385), with 3 homers and 4 rbis, but star
of the series was Yelich: 6 for 17 (.353), 5 runs, 3 homers, 8 rbis.
7th place Future Wax is not yet mathematically out of the playoff
picture, and their last 8 games are against the 6th and 8th place teams,
Constantinople and New Orleans.
----------------------------------
On Sunday, Bay City had a satisfying split. But losing the first game clinched a playoff spot for North Dakota. The
satisfying split was deserved for Bay City as they outhit Oceanus in
every game. The classic moment was in game 2 where Robin brought in
Zach Britton with the bases loaded and Jed pinch hit Nelson Cruz.
Everybody, including Britton, knew it was going to be a grand slam. So
he served up a 60 MPH 2-5 roll and I went from being down 5-2 to being
up 6-5. Britton is now 0-3, 9.42 with 3 saves and 6 blown saves. He's
given up 7 homers in 14 innings (3 in 61 innings in real life).
----------------------------------
With two weeks remaining in the SOMBILLA regular season, 5 teams are
battling for the final two playoff spots, although it is looking good
for Eric and Sam at the moment.
----------------------------------
Draft Day, Saturday, April 3. If you are planning ahead, we are looking
at a 1 PM Draft Day start; I have a doctor's appointment that morning.
(2/12) Unsatisfying split. Harold had all the luck for 2 games and then CN
came back and tied the series up ending their chances to compete.
Game 1: Aaron Judge launched 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the New Orleans
Ellis topped the Constantinople Manatees in 10 innings by a score of 5
to 2 at Doc Ellis
Field. The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. New
Orleans won the game in the 10th inning. Eloy Jimenez led off and
started the attack as he
singled. Justin Turner stepped into the batter's box and he drew a
walk. Austin Riley was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.
Judge came up
and he lofted a three-run 'big-fly' making New Orleans the victors to
the delight of the home town faithful. New Orleans finished with 10
hits while
Constantinople ended up with 7. Brandon Brennan(3-1) got the win
allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Kirby Yates(3-3) was the loser in
relief. By giving up 2 runs in 1 inning his ERA
increased from 4.32 to 5.68. 'It's been a rough ride lately, but this
was a good win for us' said Harold, 'Maybe this will put us back on
track.'
Game 2: Hyun-Jin Ryu retired 10 batters on strikeouts and Eloy Jimenez
hit a homerun as the New Orleans Ellis bested the Constantinople
Manatees 9 to 2 at Doc
Ellis Field. Ryu(3-3) pitched a solid game. He didn't give up much,
just 7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 5.47 to
4.97. New Orleans rapped out 11
hits for the night. Luis Castillo(2-4) suffered the loss. He got hit
pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. Ryu was
jubilant in the hometown clubhouse,
'It was a lot of fun out there. The fans gave me a lot of support as
did my teammates. We got the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts
anytime!'
Game 3: Third baseman Josh Donaldson went deep and had 3 RBI as the
Constantinople Manatees defeated the New Orleans Ellis by a score of 12
to 8 at Doc Ellis
Field. Jordan Yamamoto(3-1) got the win despite looking shaky at times.
He gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings and served up 2 'big
flies'. New
Orleans was out-hit by Constantinople, 12 hits to 8. Jon Gray(1-7) was
the loser. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 4 innings.
Game 4: Eduardo Escobar cracked 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the
Constantinople Manatees ballclub embarrassed the New Orleans Ellis by
the count of 13 to
3. Escobar was really in 'the zone'. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 2nd inning, stroked a single in the 6th inning, clubbed a
solo home run
in the 7th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 9th inning.
The Constantinople offense smacked the New Orleans pitching staff
around, scoring
in 7 of the 9 innings. Dakota Hudson(4-4) was the winner allowing 3
runs in 5 innings. Julio Urias earned his 1st save. Zack Wheeler(3-3)
absorbed the loss. He allowed 7
homeruns in 9 innings of work. The Constantinople ballclub's record
now stands at 22-26. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, New Orleans
is 2-8 lately and 14-30, worst in the
league on the year.
All teams are now at the 27th man callup date. Draft Day, Saturday April 3.
(2/11)
HA earns the 2-2 split in
Neverwinter. Four good
games, lots of ballpark chances missed by both sides, making the
pitchers look
real good.
Game 1: 4
– 3 Alpacas. Charlie Morton reeled
off a total of 10 strikeouts as the
Neverwinter Alpacas defeated
the Haiku Aggression ballclub by the score of 4 to 3 at
Icewind Dale Corral. Morton(5-2) earned his pay with a solid
performance for
Neverwinter. He went 7 innings surrendering 8 hits and 3
walks. Despite losing,
Haiku Aggression out-hit Neverwinter 9 to 5. Giovanny Gallegos
earned his 7th save. Justin Verlander(6-3)
was charged with he loss. Morton was pleased with his
performance. He
noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my
location was right
on. The fans really got into the game too - that always helps
me. Now, if
I can only do that again in my next outing.'
Game 2: 5
– 3 Haiku
Third baseman Nolan Arenado rocketed 2 homeruns at
Icewind Dale
Corral as the Haiku Aggression ballclub beat the Neverwinter
Alpacas by the count
of 5 to 3. Mike Soroka(5-6) earned his pay with a solid
performance for
Haiku Aggression. He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings.
Neverwinter
threatened in the 9th but Haiku Aggression was able to put down
the rally. Soroka got help from Shane Greene who earned his 2nd
save.
John Means(6-3) was the loser. He served up 4 gopher balls in 4
innings. Sam was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won
this one,
we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a
couple
more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
Game 3: 7 –
5 Alpacas
Neverwinter Alpacas won a dramatic crowd-pleaser
over
Haiku Aggression team at Icewind Dale Corral pulling it out in
their last at bats, 7 to 5. Neverwinter erupted with the game
winning runs in the 9th inning
plating 2 runs. After an out was recorded, J.T. Realmuto
jump-started
the rally as he drew a walk. Ronald Acuna next to the plate and
he clubbed a
two-run home run giving Neverwinter the win much to the delight
of the home
town crowd. Neverwinter totaled 10 hits on the night. Giovanny
Gallegos(2-2) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up
the victory. Shane Greene(2-1) was tagged with the loss in
relief. He
allowed 2 runs and1 hit in 1/3 of an
inning.
Game
4: 4 – 3
Haiku
One run was the difference at Icewind Dale Corral
as the
Haiku Aggression club defeated the Neverwinter Alpacas 4 to 3.
Haiku Aggression started with a bang, jumping out to an early
lead
in their half of the first as they scored 3 runs on 3 base
hits. The
big moment was provided by Nolan Arenado who disappointed the
partisan crowd when
he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Neverwinter made it
exciting
in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across. Anthony Bass(1-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no
runs for the
victory. Bass got relief help from Brandon Workman who gained
credit for
his 5th save. Lucas Giolito(4-3) was hit with the loss. He
struck out 9
batters in 6 innings despite losing the game.
Draft Day,
Saturday April 3.
(2/7) Oceanus
went up to the snowy confines of Neverwinter and took 3 out of 4.
The series featured 3 close games (2 extra innings affairs) and 1
blowout. A few "classic" Strat-O foibles were experienced, which
will be included in the slightly-edited, computer-generated game
stories.
Game 1: In a close game the sizzling Oceanus Assholes got by
the Neverwinter Alpacas by the score of 4 to 2. Oceanus jumped
on top of Neverwinter in the top of the 6th inning plating one
baserunner on 2 base hits. Oceanus finished with 10 hits in the
victory. The winning pitcher was Stephen Strasburg (8-1) who
allowed 2 runs in 5 innings. Strasburg got relief help from J.B.
Wendelken who gained credit for his 12th save. The coveted (by
Oceanus) Charlie Morton (4-2) took the loss. He allowed 9 hits
and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. It was another victory for
Oceanus at Icewind Dale Corral. Now their winning streak stands
at 7 games.
Game 2: Alex Bregman hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the
Neverwinter Alpacas defeated the Oceanus Assholes in 12 innings
by the score of 4 to 3 at Icewind Dale Corral. Both teams were
tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Neverwinter won the
hard fought contest in the 12th inning. After an out was
recorded, Hanser Alberto drew a walk. Ronald Acuna was next to
the plate, but was promptly struck out. Yoan Moncada then
tripled (I believe it was a 1-6 split chance, out otherwise, and
Sam picked a 1) resulting in an exciting win for Neverwinter and
a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Neverwinter
and Oceanus each finished the night with 7 hits. Adam Kolarek
(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
John Brebbia (2-3) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched
2/3 of an inning and surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk. With the win
Neverwinter now has a record of 22-20. Oceanus will hope that
this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run - and not a
start of a new trend.
Game 3: Brandon Nimmo slammed 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI at
Icewind Dale Corral as the Oceanus Assholes belted the
Neverwinter Alpacas by the count of 18 to 6. Nimmo had a big
evening at the plate. He blasted a solo shot in the 1st inning,
belted a three-run homer in the 4th inning, lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run in the 5th inning and ripped a
one-base hit in the 6th inning. Oceanus lit up the scoreboard
in the 2nd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits and the
4th inning when they had 6 runs on 6 hits. Despite scoring in 5
separate innings, Neverwinter could not get the win. Walker
Buehler (5-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and
allowing 2 runs. The very tired Mike Minor (1-8) was the loser.
He surrendered 11 homeruns in his 9 innings (must be a record).
Note that Neverwinter had 4 HR so 15 HR in the game overall.
This win by Oceanus continues their recent hot streak. In their
last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they
are a league leading 33-14. With the loss, Neverwinter has a
record of 4-6 lately, 22-21 overall. There were two Asshole
pitchers ejected in this game: Bedrosian and Garcia. Clearly it
was not intentional on the part of Oceanus, since they had
amassed a big lead when the plunkings occurred. But the umpires
had warned both teams. Freddy Freeman may have set a record for
getting on base after having made an out. It was the classic
"he's already been injured" situation so we undid the play and
tried to get Freeman to make an out. But he refused. 5 times!
Game 4: Anibal ("Why can't I get players like that?") Sanchez
went 5 solid innings and Max Kepler hit a homerun and had 2 RBI
as the Oceanus Assholes outscored the Neverwinter Alpacas in 13
innings 7 to 6, disappointing the hometown fans who had seen
their team claw back from 4-0 and 6-2 deficits to tie the game
in regulation. The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings.
Oceanus came out the victor in the 13th inning. After an out
was recorded, Brett Gardner doubled. Jose Altuve was next to
the plate, but was promptly struck out. Kepler then laced a
single scoring the run. Oceanus out-hit Neverwinter for the
game, 12 hits to 9. Yusmeiro Petit (3-3) got the win allowing no
runs in 2 innings. J.B. Wendelken gained credit for his 13th
save. Kenta Maeda (1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He
pitched 3 innings giving up 2 hits and no walks. I can't
remember who it was - probably Trey Mancini - but Sam missed a
Double 1-17 (out otherwise) chance on Wendelken's card in the
bottom of the 13th.
------------------------------------------
At the cozy confines of Building 19 park (everything 1-19),
North Dakota lamented opportunities lost, especially game 1
where they carried a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the 9th inning,
got cavalier with their bullpen usage and watched the Manatees
score 5 (including a Biggio walk-off homer) to stun the Nuclear
Warheads with an 8-7 win. Small consolation for ND, but Pete
Alonso did hit 6 homers to up his league-leading total to 23.
------------------------------------------
At Fenway, Bay City's Zack Britton returned to form and blew a
save and BC's head-hunting continued as its pitchers beaned 6
Candles (5 of them in Game 4, but couldn't induce the Wax
pitchers to follow suit that game). All games were close between
the two middle-of-the-pack (just out of the playoffs) teams,
with Ozzie Albies hitting a walkoff homer to win a game in the
10th inning.
-------------------------------------------
Draft Day, Saturday April 3
(1/31) It
was a satisfying split for Bay City, as her ballpark (four missed BP
homers by Sam) helped her win the last two after losing the first two
games.
The craziest end to a game this year happened in game 3. With two outs
in the bottom of the 9th in a 2-2 game, BC had the winning run on 3rd
(Marte), with Correa at bat against Gallegos. But then the computer
calls a game-ending balk! The Commissioner was called over, but there
was no way to "undo" the ending; as far as computer Strat-O was
concerned, the game was in the books, completed. While the Commissioner
sweated and cursed the laptop trying to figure out what to do, Robin
came up with the brilliant idea to go old-school: continue the game with
cards and dice with Correa up against Gallegos. The managers wouldn't
be able to see each other's rolls, but could see the opposing cards
within computer Strat-O just by double clicking on the player.
Thankfully (for Robin, obviously, and Arnie, who would have had to
re-enter the game by hand into the computer had Sam won), Robin rolled a
game-winning single on Correa's card to end it.
Game 1 was a 12-inning torturous affair with both teams scoring in the
9th and 10th innings, "thanks" in part to a 2-run error by BC's Urshela.
Third baseman Yoan Moncada had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Charlie Morton
whiffed 11 batters as the Neverwinter Alpacas beat the Bay City Rollers
in 12 innings by a score of 5 to 4. The score was tied at 3 after nine.
Neverwinter came out the victor in the 12th inning. After two were out
Mike Yastrzemski lofted a solo-blast on Zack Britton's first pitch (the
6th homer he's allowed in fewer than 10 IP vs. 3 in 61 innings in real
baseball). Neverwinter had 12 hits for the night. John Gant(1-1)
picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. The loss was
charged to Britton(0-1) in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in
1/3 of an inning.
Game 2: Josh Bell hit a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Neverwinter Alpacas
beat the Bay City Rollers by a score of 10 to 3. Neverwinter brought 4
runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning with the help of 6
hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Overall Neverwinter
out-hit Bay City 16 to 10. John Means(6-2) was the winner, allowing 3
runs in 5 innings. Brad Keller(1-4) was the losing pitcher. He was
knocked around by Neverwinter, allowing 16 hits and 3 walks in 8
innings.
Game 3 (ending edited): Yu Darvish reeled off a total of 12 strikeouts
at Fenway Park as the Bay City Rollers won in dramatic fashion coming
back to beat the Neverwinter Alpacas by the count of 4 to 3. Bay City
came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Yuli Gurriel
jump-started the rally as he laced a single. Nicholas Castellanos
struck out, unable to help the rally. Starling Marte then tripled,
driving in the tying run. After a lengthy video review, Gallegos's balk
was undone, and Carlos Correa singled, resulting in a mighty exciting
win for Bay City and the 37,003 home town fans in attendance. Bay City
had only 6 hits for the night. Adam Ottavino(2-0) was the winner,
allowing no runs in 1 inning. Giovanny Gallegos(1-2) suffered the loss
in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Robin was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim
there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our
fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
Game 4: At Fenway Park the Bay City Rollers outscored the Neverwinter
Alpacas 4 to 1. Jake Odorizzi(4-4) pitched well for Bay City in their
victory. He went 5 and 2/3 innings surrendering 5 hits and 3 walks. BC
benefited from turning a triple play, started by the previously
error-prone Urshela. Neverwinter proved to be no trouble in the 9th.
Lucas Giolito(4-2) was given the loss. He pitched 5 innings and
surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks. Robin was pleasantly shocked that Zach
Britton pitched 3 scoreless innings.
DRAFT DAY, Saturday April 3
(1/28) The Oceanus Assholes went down to New Orleans and enjoyed the most
absurd sustained good luck in recent memory, if not of all time. A bold
claim and of course luckier runs must have been had by somebody at some
point. But as Harold can attest, I was getting all the important rolls
and splits. Lots of 1s and 2s for splits. Getting hits and errors on
the defense. Even stealing bases (I am or at least was in last place in
the league in that category). You name it. And of course Harold was
missing. By the time the luck started shifting...it was in the last
couple of innings of the last game. And so the Assholes pulled off the
series sweep to open up a 6-game lead over the rest of the league. Below are the slightly-edited, computer-generated game
summaries. The computer isn't holding back on New Orleans - it's not
sympathetic.
Game 1. Shortstop Trevor Story cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the
Oceanus Assholes beat the floundering (that was computer-generated -
ed.) New Orleans Ellis by a score of 8 to 3. Oceanus
started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first when they scored 3 runs on 3 hits. The biggest moment was
provided by Mitch Garver who silenced the crowd when he doubled bringing
in two baserunners. Oceanus had 12 hits overall, while New Orleans had
4. The win went to Stephen Strasburg (7-1) who allowed 3 runs
in 6 and 2/3 innings. Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-3) was the losing pitcher. He
pitched 7 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 9 hits and 2 walks.
Game 2. The Oceanus Assholes had very little trouble at Doc Ellis
Field downing the slumping New Orleans Ellis. The score was 8 to 2. Cam
Bedrosian (2-0) got the win with a nice relief outing. He gave up just
2 hits and 1 walk in 3 innings. Oceanus dominated offensively as they
scored in 6 different innings. Jon Gray (1-6) was given the loss. He
was knocked around by Oceanus, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.
Game 3. 41,800
fans were treated to a fine game at Doc Ellis Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Oceanus Assholes won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. Oceanus came up with 4 runs in the
top of the 2nd inning when they came up with 4 base hits. The critical
plate appearance was by Michael Brantley who silenced the crowd when he
stroked a base-hit bringing in two baserunners. New Orleans made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.
The victory was credited to Walker Buehler (4-2) who
went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs. Buehler got help from J.B. Wendelken
who earned his 10th save. Zack Wheeler (3-2) took the loss. He got hit
hard, allowing 12 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. 'We
just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Harold said. 'It's bad
enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating
yourselves, that's really bad.' (Ed. note: computer-generated Harold,
not real Harold).
Game 4. Mitch Garver hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Doc Ellis
Field as the Oceanus Assholes beat the ice-cold New Orleans Ellis by
the count of 9 to 8. New Orleans was unable to recover after Oceanus
went ahead in the top of the 3rd inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base
hits. The key at-bat was by Nelson Cruz who disappointed the
partisan crowd when he delivered a one-base hit scoring two
baserunners. Oceanus totaled 9 hits on the night. The
victory was credited to Yusmeiro Petit (2-3) who went 1 inning,
allowing no runs. J.B. Wendelken got the save, his 11th. Tyler
Glasnow (1-2) took the loss. He was touched for 7 hits and 5
walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. In another of a string of victories, Oceanus
extended their winning streak to 6 games.
Draft Day, Saturday April 3
(1/24) The Oceanus Assholes came to Gackle
park and took 3 out of 4 from North Dakota. Keys to the
series victory included some well-timed complaining in game 3
that led to a HR on a 1-2 chance and Arnie missing 4 BP HR
chances in game 4. Here are the slightly-edited
computer-generated game summaries.
Game 1: Left fielder Michael Brantley had 2 base hits at
Gackle Park where the Oceanus Assholes beat the North Dakota
Nuclear Warheads 2 to 1 in a nail biter. Stephen Strasburg (6-1)
gave a fine effort for Oceanus. He went 6 and 2/3 innings and
surrendered up 5 hits and 3 walks. The pitchers took over after
the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score again. J.B.
Wendelken recorded the save, his 8th. The loss was charged to
Jacob Degrom (6-3). Although losing the contest, he whiffed 13
batters in 8 innings.
Game 2: Shortstop Francisco Lindor blasted a homerun and scored
3 times as the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads defeated the Oceanus
Assholes by a score of 8 to 2 at
Gackle Park. Shane Bieber (4-3) pitched a fine game. He went 6
innings and surrendered up 4 hits and 1 walk. Bieber struckout 7
Oceanus batters reducing his ERA from 4.33 to 3.95. North Dakota
ended up with 13 hits for the game while Oceanus had 7. Aaron
Nola (3-2) was the loser. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in 5
innings.
Game 3: First baseman Matt Olson smacked 2 homeruns and had 3
RBI and Walker Buehler mowed down 11 North Dakota batters at
Gackle Park where the Oceanus Assholes
beat the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads by the score of 7 to 4.
This was the pivotal game in the series as the 'heads had gone up
4-1 early and the griping had begun in the Asshole dugout. Olson
had a big day with his bat. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 4th inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 5th
inning (this was the HR 1-2 roll). Oceanus totaled 11 hits on the
night.
Buehler (3-2) went 7 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Buehler
got help from Alex (one from) Colome who was credited with his 2nd
save. Keone Kela (1-1) was given the loss in relief. His ERA
increased from 2.57 to 4.70 as he allowed 2 runs in 2/3 of an
inning.
Game 4: Anibal Sanchez pitched 5 strong innings as the Oceanus
Assholes outscored the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads 2 to 0.
Again, North Dakota went 0-4 on BP HRs while Oceanus went 2-3.
Daniel Hudson (2-0) was given credit for the win. He went 1 and
1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk lowering his ERA from 3.63
to 3.38. North Dakota went down without a fight in the bottom of
the 9th. J.B. Wendelken recorded the save, his 9th. Lance Lynn
(6-2) suffered the loss. Despite the loss, he struckout 10 Oceanus
batters in 7 innings.
------------------------------------------------
Haiku
Aggression, smarting from a rash of injuries that may have impacted
their 3-1 series loss to North Dakota, managed, despite another rash of
injuries, to beat Future Wax 3 games to 1.
Results:
HA 3-1
HA 5-0
HA 8-3
FW 5-2
It
was a low-scoring affair at hitter-friendly Sandover Fields on Sunday.
Greinke took a tough loss in Game 1 when his defense let him down in a
tight match. A Turner boot in the 5th, with FW up 1-0, led to
2 unearned runs. That was enough for Verlander, who went 7 innings,
surrendering just a solo shot and two harmless singles while whiffing
10. The game was notable for the Aggressions, who sustained three more
injuries. Max Muncy, making his first appearance of the season after
Wong was traded for a song to make room for him, got plunked in his
first at-bat and had to sit out this and the next two games. Then injury
call-up SS Ahmed got clonked for his 3-game stint on the IL, and then
Soto got knocked out of the game, but somehow managed to avoid missing
any other games. The defense was in tatters, with 4s everywhere, but FW
hit ‘em to the wrong guys.
In
Game 2 Soroka pitched 5 scoreless innings before handing it over to the
bullpen, who shut down FW for HA’s first combined shutout of the
season. LeMahieu (3-run) and Luplow (solo) went yard against Kershaw in
the 4thand that was more than enough.
In Game 3, Flaherty for HA got off to a rough start, giving up 2 solo blasts in the 1st,
but Stroman gave it right back by giving up 2 of his own. It was 5-3 HA
thru 4, but the Aggression pulled away with 3 late inning runs.
FW managed to avoid the sweep, jumping on Hendricks early for 4 2nd-innng
runs, and that held up, with Paddock going 7 solid innings,
surrendering just 3 hits and striking out 6. Lugo came in to shut down
HA for a 5-out save.
Draft Day April 3, 2021
(1/21) The Manatees arrived in Rehoboth Beach and marveled at how the Parking
Lot looked exactly like their own home field. Alas, luck did not favor
the mild-mannered aquatic critters and the Assholes took 3 out of 4
games. Here are the slightly edited game result files. One of the
memorable foibles of the series was Mike Trout giving up 3 hits on the 3
X chances that came his way. And he made a 2-base error as well. He
did have a good series at the plate but still.
Game 1
Third baseman Anthony Rendon hit a grand slam as the Oceanus Assholes beat the
Constantinople Manatees by a score of 15 to 7.
Rendon
helped send the fans home happy. He caught a hold of a fastball for a
Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning, doubled which scored a run in the
6th
inning and ripped a single in the 8th inning. Oceanus kept the
scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning with 5 runs on 4 hits. Oceanus
ended up with 16 hits for the game while Constantinople had 11.
The
victory went to Daniel Hudson (1-0) who went 3 innings, allowing no
runs. Luis Castillo (2-3) tired in the first inning and took one for
the team. He allowed 3 homeruns in 8 innings of work.
Game 2
Designated
hitter Nelson Cruz had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Oceanus Assholes
defeated the Constantinople Manatees 12 to 9 at Rehoboth Parking Lot.
Oceanus
went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring a single run using 2
hits. Constantinople tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Aaron
Nola (3-1) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings. Ross Stripling (2-3) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Game 3
Jordan
Yamamoto retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Constantinople
Manatees defeated the Oceanus Assholes by a score of 8 to 4 at Rehoboth
Parking Lot.
Yamamoto (2-1) gave Constantinople a solid outing.
He was reached for 6 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 2 homeruns seeing his ERA drop from 5.14 to 4.87. Both
teams finished the game with 7 hits.
Kirby Yates recorded the
save, his 5th. Yusmeiro Petit (1-3) was the loser in relief.
Constantinople scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2 innings.
Yamamoto
didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had
10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's
pretty good, isn't it?'
Game 4
Mitch
Garver blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Oceanus Assholes smashed
the overmatched Constantinople Manatees, 16 to 6. Note though that the
Manatees were ahead early and bad luck prevented them from
consolidating their lead.
Garver helped send the fans home happy. He smashed a two-run homer in the 7th
inning
and clubbed a three-run home run in the 8th inning. Oceanus provided
plenty of action in the 7th inning when they had 8 runs on 7 hits. A
wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
John Brebbia (2-2) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 and 1/3 innings. The loss was charged to Josh Taylor (0-2) in relief.
(1/19) Fueled by indignant outrage and
lingering animosity, North Dakota followed through on its
threat to kick the aptly named Aggresssion's ass in a series
filled with vile insults, bitter feelings, and outright
hostility.
In truth, the two ancient rivals laughed, got high, and played
a hard-fought close series after Arnie accepted Eric's
gracious apology and empathized with Eric for his bad day at
work.
'On the table', so to speak, North Dakota had visions of a
series sweep after winning the first two games. The Nuclear
Warheads staked deGrom (now 6-2) to a 4-0 lead after three
innings, helped by Mayor Pete Alonso's 3-run homer, his 16th.
Eric made it a game, scoring a run on a double play in the 7th
and an rbi single by Lemahieu in the 8th to make it 4-2. But
Oberg, Osuna, and Kela (his first save) closed the door for
the win.
In game 2, Shane Bieber was ths story, yielding just 1 run,
with 14 k's and 0 walks, scattering 8 hits as the Nuclear
Warheads won 5-1. Although B. Anderson and Contreras homered
for ND, it was all about Bieber. According the the computer
"Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Bieber - except
HaikuAggression. Eric lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight.
He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by
a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the
hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!' ".
That's not exactly what Eric said about Bieber or his own team
after the game.
Eric surely could have used Y. Alvarez, who was out for the
series, and K. Marte also missed the first two games. He also
had Luplow out for game 1, and Xander got injured in game 4.
So ND had some luck in that regard. With Marte back in the
lineup, Eric came back to win game 3, 4-3. He jumped in front
1-0 in the first on a couple of hits, and in the 3rd, a Lindor
error, a walk, a groundout, and then a 2-run Bellinger single
gave him a 3-0 lead. Betts's rbi single made it a 3-1 game,
and an rbi single by Yelich in the 6th made it 3-2. Eric then
went to his pen as Pressley, Greene, and Bass held the slim
lead until the 8th. But his 8th inning was a Bummmer,
lierally and figuratively, as Yelich's homer tied the game
3-3. But the game was won by Haiku Aggression when they scored
a run in the 9th inning. Juan Soto singled. Kevin Pillar
stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice
bunt (which surprised me). Xander Bogaerts then laced a
single, scoring the run. Workman got the win, hist first.
The Aggression jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the
first of the finale, helped by a 2-run homer by Aronado and an
rbi-triple from Lemahieu. Hiura's 2-run homer in the bottom
of the first made it 4-2, and in the 3rd inning, Brandon Lowe
smashed a grand salami off of Kyle Hendricks to give the
Nuclear Warheads the 6-4 lead. Arreaz hits a solo shot for
Eric in the 4th to make it 6-5. And that's the way it stayed
until the end. Osuna and Liam Hendicks pitched 3 2/3 innings
of a perfect game, stifling the injury depleted Aggression for
the series win.
***DRAFT DAY UPDATE*** Harold's plans to attend The Masters
have fallen through and so we are reverting back to Saturday,
APRIL 3 for Draft Day.
(1/17) Bay
City sweeps*
North Dakota
I
won the first three games on Saturday, all close, and then lost*
Game 4 today
2-1, but when Arnie was inputting game results into the computer
(because we
played the old-fashioned way), he discovered that I had made
only 2 outs in the
third inning of what at the time was a 1-1 game.
(AP
- Of course, I dutifully had restrained from getting high during
our series because I learned long ago to never do luggage at
Strat-O unless your opponent also indulged. But 2 hours later
when I discovered the scoring error, I was quite stoned. At
first, I tried seeing if Robin might just say 'fuck it' due to
the pain in the ass factor. I even cited the 1990 SOMBILLA
World Series when Eric beat Jed in 7 games only to discover an
error in scoring of game 6 and should they replay the games?
After debating, they decided to let the results stand. See
http://www.sombilla.x10.mx/archive.htm#1989. But, I would have
felt guilty, especially since this game could impact others in
the league, unlike that World Series 30 years ago). Down to the
basement to retrieve the stored-away white thing.
So,
we replayed, from the point
of what was really the second out in the bottom of the third.
Jeff McNeil hit a
clutch out, but despite taking the lead in the 4th on an Alonso
homer, ND fell
further behind when BC's Chirinos hit a grand slam in the bottom
of the 4th. ND
narrowed the gap to 6-5 but eventually lost 7-5. When Arnie
attempted to input
these new results, he discovered that BC's Marte had made the
last out in the 4th
and then led off in the 5th.
(AP
- probably because I very stoned. At least, this time, I'd get
a shot to turn around the loss instead of having to replay a 2-1
win. Even though it meant I was down by 4 runs. Down to the
basement to retrieve the stored-away white thing, yet again).
So
we delayed dinner, and again recommenced Game 4, this time with
BC
leading 6-2 in the 5th, and again, BC proved to be victorious,
winning the
9-inning game 8-2, after playing Game 4 for some 20 innings.
The
early games were remarkable in their own way--Gerrit Cole, in
his tenth
start of the season, won his first game, striking out 15 (for
the second straight
start) in 7 innings and notching the 3-1 win, thanks in part to
a McNeil 2-run
shot (AP - on a ballpark homer 1-3, that Yelich of course had
missed).
Game
2 featured the third (or fourth?) time a Bay City pitcher was
removed from
a game after hitting a player after warnings were issued to both
teams. Because
neither team is following the Randy/Eric fuck-it rules, Darvish
was tossed
after beaning Brian Anderson to lead off the 6th in a tie game.
(AP - this actually helped Robin. ND had found the homers on
Darvish's card, and continued rolling them even after he was
removed) and despite the
lack of warm-up pitches, Lorenzen threw two scoreless innings
and former North
Dakotan Ottavino pitched 1 2/3 scoreless before Zack Britton(!)
struck out Lowe
to win it, 2-1 after Marte had tripled home Castro in the bottom
of the 8th.
The much maligned (and head-hunting) Britton also saved Game 3,
which BC won
3-2. Arnie missed a bunch of ballpark homers in BC's cavernous
Fenway Park
lookalike. (AP - Note only that, but Robin won the game in the
8th when she broke the 2-2 tie with three straight
singles...from the fielding charts (2BX, 1BX, CFX)),
Also, neither player was impaired for the first go-round of Game
4, and since
Arnie was scoring, he takes the blame (and also the credit for
alerting me of
his error). Interesting side note: BC's Carlos Correa is a 2e5,
but the charts only start at e7,
so there is no way to know what his error chances actually are
in dice and card
mode (AP - I noted that in the 5th inning of game 1, I rolled a
"16" for the SS X roll. Probably not an error, but the next
time this year Correa has a SSx roll come up, be alert for the
error chances that the computer game shows for e5. If 16 is one
of them, we need to replay game 1 from the 5th inning. Hah!)
(1/14) Eric swept into sole possession of third place earlier tonight over hapless New Orleans. Here are Eric's Twits Notes:
Strange year. Haiku Aggression is 7-1 vs. Bay City and 7-1 vs. New Orleans, and against everyone else they’re 5-15.
Games:
HA 2-1
HA 9-4
HA 15-5
HA 7-2
It
was an unkind night for Harold. Game 1 was the only nail-biter as
Verlander and J. Gray went toe-to-toe for 6 innings, the first four of
which were hitless for both sides. LeMahieu smacked a solo shot in the 5thto break Gray’s no-no, and that held up until Marte added an insurance blast in the 9th. Judge went yard in the bottom of the frame to shave the lead to one, but Workman held on for the 2-inning save.
Between Games 1 and 2 some dumb screw-the-21st-century
computer bullshit happened (that’s Harold talking, not me) and I really
don’t want to go into it right now, but eventually we (Harold) worked
it out* and that’s when things went really south for New Orleans. For
the next three games it became a parade of tired pitchers left in by a
frustrated Harold to absorb innings because the games were never close.
Game 2 had some drama thru 6 innings (5-3 at that point), but HA broke
thru for 4 runs in the 7thand that was that. NO never held a lead at any point in the series.
Harold
did exact some revenge, injuring Y. Alvarez, Marte, and Luplow, all
hit-by-pitches via computer rolls. When Bellinger and Arenado went
back-to-back in Game 4, Harold, as promised, plunked Soto. The benches
did not clear, and HA did not retaliate.
Sorry, Tsuan.
* Not his issues with the 21stcentury, but the game.
(1/10) An
unsatisfying split for Bay City as grand slams by Carlos Correa (9th
inning of game 1 to win the game) and Ozzie Albies were offset by
numerous wasted bases-loaded opportunities (non-run-scoring double play
followed by clutch out). Gerrit Cole remained winless as he struck out
15 in 7 innings but gave up four solo shots. Tom had two pitchers thrown
out in the 9th inning of game 4 for beanings (after Zack Britton came
in and hit the only batter he faced and was immediately ejected), but
still hung on to win 10-9 with the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
Meanwhile, from Oceanus: A satisfying...satisfying split. Oceanus took the first two games and
couldn't be blamed for feeling they should have won the series.
However, one of the wins was an epic comeback, which Future Wax
rightfully could have felt should've been theirs. It was a pretty fast series - delayed
at the start due to a political discussion where Randy and I set about
solving the nations problems....One interesting tidbit I remember is that Olson was up and Randy had
given me control when he didn't mean to. He had wanted to bring in a
reliever. I think the bases might've been loaded. We agreed, of
course, that we'd undo the play. I had a premonition...and sure enough,
it was a straight shot homer on Olson's card. Which I then undid. And
of course he made an out when the reliever was brought in. I also
remember Randy calling an error. He called for a split card of 11 and
that's what he got. I really do think there are Strato gods who enjoy
messing with us....
Draft Day, April 10
(1/7) With a highly entertaining series win over New Orleans, North Dakota moved to within percentage points of first place.
Let's start with game 3, shall we? This game showed up on the SOMBILLA
schedule as 12/25. For the third straight game, Harold scored in the
top of the first. This time it was from a Semien rbi single. Somewhat presciently, the ND manager called out the fact that New Orleans' Sonny Gray had no-hitter in the 3rd
inning and both managers laughed. Nobody was laughing when he still had the no-no after 8 innings.
Gray, rumored to be sought after by Oceanus, automatically became tired
after 8 innings. Despite this, and despite him clinging to a 1-0 lead,
Harold left him in for the 9th, stating, "I should take him out, but..."
Brian Anderson grounds out. Harold says, "I should take him out, but..."
Pete Alonso strikes out. Harold says, "I should take him out, but..."
Jorge Soler rolls a Triple 1-3, Complete game 1-0 no-hitter, 4-20. Soler rolls a 3.
Two relievers and an intentional walk later, Contreras hits a grounder
to Turner at 3B that should end the game, but he boots it to tie the
game 1-1.
Bottom of the 10th inning, Mookie hits a walkoff home run.
Game 1: New Orleans jumps in front in the top of the first on a 2-run
homer by Judge. The Nuclear Warheads get one back in the bottom of the
first (B. Lowe HR) and two in the 2nd (2-run shot by Hiura) to take a
3-2 lead. In the top of the 3rd JBJ hits a 2-run single to give New
Orleans the lead back 4-3. But in the bottom of the 3rd inning, the
Nuclear Warheads scored 7 runs on 6 hits to tire out Sandy Alcantara and
make it a 10-4 game. Alcantara pitches OK for the rest of the game,
but ND wins 11-6. deGrom pitched well enough to win his 5th game.
Scott (not Hal) Oberg made his North Dakota debut and almost immediately
gave up a 2-run homer (HR 1-8, roll was a 12), but did not.
Game 2: This time it was Austin Meadows and Grandal with first inning homers and NO jumped to a 4-0 lead as
the New Orleans Ellis beat the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads by a score
of 8 to 3. The four-run first inning was all the offense they were to
need. Both teams ended up with 9 hits on the night. The win was
credited to Tyler Glasnow(1-0) who went 5 innings allowing no runs. Tony
Gonsolin recorded his 3rd save. The loss was charged to Bieber(2-3).
During the game we noticed what Tom had previously pointed out; the
computer will NO LONGER give you a PB or WP on a catcher(X) roll
(because of all the nonsense additional random WP's and PB's). So you
need to pay attention and manually enter one if necessary. In this
case, it scored a run for Harold.
Game 4: Niko Goodrum had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the North Dakota Nuclear Warheads outscored the New Orleans Ellis 8 to 2.
North Dakota scored 3 runs in the 5th inning when they had 3 base hits.
The crucial at-bat was provided by Goodrum who thrilled the crowd when
he tripled bringing home two baserunners. North Dakota ended up with 13
hits for the game while New Orleans had 6. Lance Lynn(5-0) was the
winner allowing 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Hyun-Jin Ryu(2-2) took the
loss. He was unable to control the North Dakota offense and allowed 10
hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
After Yelich and Lindor hit back to back homers off Trevor May in the
8th inning, Harold ordered him to intentionally hit Goldschmidt.
Tempers flared and both benches were warned. But nobody was ejected.
Draft Day, Saturday April 10th
(1/3) In a season that’s been baffling,
frustrating, and full of whining incredulity (Eric's), the Aggressions have
nothing but good things to say about Bay City and her equally baffled and
frustrated manager, Ms. Robin P. Sez Aggression manager Eric, “Robin’s an old
friend, and I’m sure that going 1-7 against us is easier to stomach than going
1-7 against her husband.”
Hmm… A highly specious assumption,
but we’ll let it slide for now. Suffice to say that Bay City has kept the
Aggressions in the hunt for a playoff spot, but Eric’s going to need to figure
something out to better his 8-16 record against the rest of league.
Scores for Sunday:
Game 1: HAI 9-3
Game 2: HAI 4-2
Game 3: BC 5-4 (13 innings)
Game 4: HAI 4-3 (11 innings)
Game 1: The series’ only
laugher, the Aggression were up 8-1 after 5, led by strong pitching by
Verlander (8 innings) and 4 rbi’s from mini-mighty Kolton Wong (3-run blast in
the 2nd). G. Cole (0-5) was the tough-luck loser yet again. He
struck out 12, but of the 9 hits he allowed, 3 were doubles, 2 were
dingers.
Game 2: From here on out the rest of
the games were close. The Rollers were looking good through 6 innings in Gm. 2,
leading 2-0 behind a J. Castro solo shot and the stellar pitching of Frankie
“Praying” Montas, who held the Aggressions in check until surrendering a run in
the 7th. But on the other side Soroka did a pretty decent job, too,
giving up just one run in 4.3 innings. The bullpen went the rest of the way,
holding BC to one run while Bellinger (2-run shot) and Soto (solo) went yard in
the 8thoff Gott in himmel, scoring 3. Bass & Workman
worked the 9th, and the Aggressions were now 6-0 against BC this
year.
Game 3: Let the record show that
Robin won this game (and avoided the ignominy of a season sweep) due to a
brilliantly timed coffee break late in an extra inning affair. Way back in the
2nd the Rollers got off to a quick 2-0 lead on solo shots by
Gurriel & Laureano, and held a 4-2 lead after 7. But Oberg for BC gave up a
2-run pinch-hit dinger to Y. Alvarez in the 8thto tie it at 4, at
which point both offenses went into a deep freeze until Robin went full
Seattle's Best on Eric and decided it was time to whip up some dark roast. For
you superstitious types, it was the top of the 13th. Eric,
who was momentarily ungracious and a little wtf-y, initially asked Robin to
forgo the Joe until he surmised, after a spell of overthinking, that that was a
whole lotta bad karma, and acquiesced. So in came Bass, who, upon Robin’s
return, promptly gave up a good karma blast to Laureano, his second of the
game, and the game winner as it turned out. Lorezen took the win, with Anderson
picking up the save. Season sweep avoided.
Game 4: Another nail biter that BC
had every right to win. Darvish was brilliant through seven, surrendering only
a solo shot to Bogaerts in 4th. Up 3-1 going into the 8th,
Robin summoned Z. Britton with much hand-wringing, and Britton, who clearly
sensed his manager’s anxiousness, promptly gave up a solo shot to Lemahiue to
make it 3-2. Britton took that lead into the 9th, and coughed
up
another solo shot, this to Bellinger. Britton, who gave up 3 homers in
61 innings in real life, has given up 5 dingers in only 8 innings this
season. Someone (I think Urshela) missed a home
run in the 10thor 11thfor BC, and the Aggressions won it
in the 11thwith a 2-out, walk-off triple (only in Strat-O) by C.
Kelly. Though Baez got the win for the Aggressions, the bullpen gets the game
ball, going 7 innings and giving up zero hits and two walks.
(12/31) And...with last night's results
only two teams are above .500 again. Remember that all teams
get a day off at game 28. Series Twits notes from Harold will
be out tonight. Speaking of Harold, he has requested we move
Draft Day from April 3 to Saturday April 10. Happy New Year!
Game 1: Catcher Yasmani Grandal knocked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the New Orleans Ellis beat the
floundering Constantinople Manatees by a score of 13 to 8. Grandal had a good evening at the plate. He
rifled a three-run blast in the 6th inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 7th
inning. Constantinople was out-hit by New Orleans, 13 hits to 9. Zack Wheeler(3-0) got the win allowing
4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Marcus Walden(0-1) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and
surrendered 2 hits and no walks.
Game 2: Ross Stripling whiffed 10 batters and catcher Roberto Perez ripped 2 homeruns as the Constantinople
Manatees outscored the New Orleans Ellis 7 to 2. Stripling(1-1) pitched a fine game. He allowed 5 hits and 2
walks in 7 innings. Constantinople had only 6 hits for the
game. Kirby Yates earned the save, his 4th. Sonny Gray(0-4)
was charged with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 7 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the
game, Stripling offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun
to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the
stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
Game 3: Christian Walker had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New Orleans Ellis beat the Constantinople Manatees by a score
of 10 to 9. New Orleans jumped on top to stay in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs. Kris Bryant kicked off the action
when he doubled. Marcus Semien stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Yasmani Grandal then drew a walk
to load the bases. Gleyber Torres followed next and he reached on
an error knocking in a run. Walker came to the plate
and would hit into a force play bringing in another run. Eloy
Jimenez contributed to the rally and would ground out scoring
the final run of the inning. Constantinople tried unsuccessfully
to come back in the 9th. Hyun-Jin Ryu(2-1) went 6 and 2/3
innings allowing 5 runs for the victory. Brandon Brennan got the save, his 1st. Jordan Yamamoto(0-1) was the loser. New
Orleans knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 9 runs in 5 innings.
Game 4: Eloy Jimenez hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI at Building 19 Park as the New Orleans Ellis beat the Constantinople
Manatees 8 to 4. Jimenez had a good evening at the plate. He lost
the ball over the fence for three runs in the 6th inning,
delivered a base-hit in the 8th inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 9th inning. For the game New Orleans out-hit
Constantinople 13 to 5. The victory went to Jon Gray(1-4) who went 5
innings, allowing 2 runs. Tyler Duffey recorded his 1st save.
Dakota Hudson(3-3) took the loss.
(12/30) New Orleans won its second series of the year earlier tonight and closed to within 4 games of a playoff spot!
Game 1: In a close game it was the New Orleans Ellis 7, the Bay City Rollers 5 at Doc
Ellis Field. New Orleans scored the winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs. Aaron
Judge kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Kris Bryant was a strikeout victim, unable
to help out. One out later, Yasmani Grandal then blasted a two-run home run. New Orleans
rapped out 8 hits for the night. The win was credited to Brandon Brennan(2-1) who went 1 inning
allowing no runs. Tony Gonsolin earned the save, his 2nd. Gerrit Cole(0-4) was charged
with the loss. He struck out 10 batters in 7 and 2/3 innings despite losing the game.
Game 2: Designated hitter Eloy Jimenez blasted a homerun at Doc Ellis Field where the
New Orleans Ellis beat the Bay City Rollers 7 to 6. Hyun-Jin Ryu(1-1) gave New Orleans a
solid outing. He went 6 and 2/3 innings and surrenderedd up 6 hits and 2 walks. Ryu whiffed
an impressive total of 9 Bay City batters. Bay City threatened in the 9th but New Orleans was able to
put down the rally. Ryu got relief help from Taylor Rogers who gained credit for his 2nd save.
The losing pitcher was Frankie Montas(0-1). He served up 3 homeruns in his 5 innings.
Game 3: Yu Darvish struck out 11 batters at Doc Ellis Field as the Bay City Rollers
beat the New Orleans Ellis by the count of 7 to 4. Darvish(1-2) pitched well for Bay City in their victory.
He went 6 and 1/3 innings surrendering 6 hits and 1 walk. Bay City had 11 hits for the night. Darvish got
relief help from Trevor Gott who gained credit for his 4th save. Jon Gray(0-4) was the losing pitcher.
He was unable to control the Bay City offense and allowed 11 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.
Darvish was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I
just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
Game 4: Gleyber Torres rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Doc Ellis Field where the
New Orleans Ellis beat the Bay City Rollers by the score of 7 to 1. Torres had a big evening
at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 2nd inning and ripped a solo home run in the
4th inning. New Orleans totaled 7 hits on the night. Sandy Alcantara(1-3) got credit for the
victory, pitching 5 and 1/3 innings and allowing 1 run. Alcantara got help from Trevor May who
earned his 1st save. Jake Odorizzi(3-3) was the loser. He allowed 3 homeruns in 4 and 2/3
innings of work.
(12/29) Alpacas
sweep into 4th place! No ejections
or injuries as the Neverwinter starters had a great series.
Game 1: 6 – 1 Alpacas
The
Neverwinter Alpacas cruised to a 6 to 1 victory over the HaikuAggression team
at Three Line Park. Charlie Morton(3-1) gave Neverwinter a solid outing.
He was reached for 8 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings lowering his ERA from 4.15 to
3.52. Neverwinter won despite being out-hit by HaikuAggression 8 hits to
5. Justin Verlander(3-1) suffered the loss. He pitched 6 innings
and surrendered
2 hits and 3
walks.
Game
2: 8 – 3 Alpacas
Designated
hitter Josh Bell launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Three Line Park as the
Neverwinter Alpacas beat the HaikuAggression club by the count of 8 to 3. Bell
was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of
the offense for the visitors. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the
1st inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 4th inning. For the game Neverwinter
out-hit HaikuAggression 12 to 7. The victory went to John Means(3-2) who
went 5 innings, allowing no runs. Mike Soroka(2-5) was the losing
pitcher. He surrendered 3 homeruns in his 4 innings.
Game
3: 5 – 3 Alpacas
Josh Bell
jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Neverwinter Alpacas
outscored the HaikuAggression ballclub 5 to 3. Mike Minor(1-5) earned his pay
with a solid performance for Neverwinter. He went 6 and 2/3 innings and
surrended up 6 hits and 2 walks. Neverwinter banged out 9 hits on the
night. Minor got relief help from Giovanny Gallegos who gained credit for
his 2nd save. The loss was charged to Jack
Flaherty(4-2). Despite the loss, he struckout 12 Neverwinter batters in 7
and 1/3 innings. The Neverwinter ballclub's record now stands at
11-12. With the loss, the HaikuAggression ballclub's record is 12-15.
Game
4: 5 – 4 Alpacas
The
Neverwinter Alpacas nipped the HaikuAggression team 4 to 3 at Three Line Park
in a hard fought contest. Lucas Giolito(3-1) had a steady outing. He went
5 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 walks. HaikuAggression threatened in the
9th but their rally came up short. Giovanny Gallegos earned his 3rd
save. Kyle Hendricks(2-3) was charged with the loss. Neverwinter
scored big getting 4 runs off him in 3 and 1/3 innings. Eric was subdued
when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss
takes a while
to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've been through this
many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine – as for me -
I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
(12/22) It was not Randy’s night as he went down 3-1 versus the Manatees
Game 1: The CN bats scored 8 early runs for Castillo on 3 homers and the home team won 9-1 in the first game.
Game 2: Stripling, just up from extended spring training, gets hammered in the 1st
for 5 runs. The Manatees hit Kershaw for 3 of their own and put Urias in the game
and Wax waxes them for 5 more runs. Everything goes Wax's way for this
one game as
they win 12-9.
Game 3: Manatees go up 4-1 early but Wax claws
back to 4-2. Manatees ride Manea a little too long as injury
replacement Luis Urias hits him up for a ball park HR on his card to tie it
4-4. But JD Martinez gets to face a lefty and he homers
to get the lead back 5-4. But then the Wax gets ahold of one in the 8th to tie it.
Bottom
of the ninth. Escobar leads off with a
double and advances to third on Donaldson’s ground out. Then Harper
comes up and Catcher X result is a P/P (range 1 roll 5), so should have
ended the game on a walk-off passed ball. But with the super
advanced rules on (needed for the blocking of the plate rule) it is
called an out. Harper claims that
he never swung the bat and the benches empty. Umpires call the
Commissioner and he rules it a win for CN (to be manually entered) and
Wax
goes to their hotels pissed.
Game 4: Controversy abounds. Stroman turns out
to be the 125 inning version (the best one) but Randy thinks he might of
meant to use the 184 inning version. There was an offer to go home and
figure out what should happen… Does Randy
want to replay the 2 wins that Stroman has already? Some other penalty
in this COVID Computer world? He says screw it and that he will make
the 125 inning version work. The game starts and they are still on
manual play… The game starts again…
Stroman is hit for 6 runs in the first and
is tired. He stays in and pitches superbly except for a 2 run shot to
Mike Trout. It is 8-2 and without that 1st inning it would be tied. The game ends 9-2 and Wax goes home
for the Holidays with a sour taste in his mouth.
All TWITS note teasing aside, Randy was a gentleman
as the computer conspired against him and the Manatees hit in all 4
games unlike their series versus the fearsome Jed. Happy Holidays and Stay Safe! Enjoy Life!
--------------------------------------
The
league's two retirees played what is believed to be the first
Tuesday afternoon series in league history. The two top two
teams split a highly entertaining series featuring shockingly
poor defense, lots of homers, and questionable pitching.
In game 1, the Assholes jumped on league-leading ERA leader
Jake deGrom with a Max (not Johannes) Kepler grand slam. Solo
shots by Alonso and Goldschmidt made it a 4-2 game, but
Avila's 2-run homer in the 5th made it 6-2, Assholes. A Goldy
2-run double and Hiura rbi single in the 6th brought the
Nuclear Warheads back to 6-5, but Yarbrough, Petit, and
Wendleken (6th save) closed the door for the Asshole win.
Pete Alonso smacked a 3-run homer in the 8th inning of game 2
off Brebbia to break a 3-3 tie and lead North Dakota to the
6-3 win. Keone Kela(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching
1 inning and allowing no runs. Kela was helped out by Liam
Hendriks who recorded his 3rd save.
In game 3, The North Dakota Nuclear Warheads got by the
Oceanus Assholes at Rehoboth Parking Lot by a score of 4 to 2.
Mike Clevinger(1-1) gave North Dakota a solid outing. He
allowed 5 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Clevinger
racked up 8 strikeouts reducing his ERA from 3.60 to 3.09.
Liam Hendriks relieved and was untouched by Oceanus as he
recorded the save, his 4th. The losing pitcher was Walker
Buehler(2-1). He surrendered 3 homeruns in his 6 and 2/3
innings.
Game 4 was a crazy back and forth game won by the Assholes
10-9 to gain the split. Gold-glovers F.Lindor, M.Olson,
T.Story all made errors while gold-glover Yelich had run
scoring doubles and singles get by him. Starters Lance Lynn
and Aaron Sanchez were long gone by the 4th inning. A combined
13 pitchers were used. The game had 7 lead changes. M.
Garver had 2 home runs for the assholes. W. Contreras was 3
for 5 with 4 rbi for the Warheads. The immortal Byron Buxton
had the walk-off double in the 9th for the win.
Remember, all teams get a day off after game 28.
(12/20) Alpacas earn a
split at home with a Freeman walk off in the bottom of the ninth
inning, keeping them in the race for the playoffs.
Game 1: Gerrit Cole retired 15
batters on strikeouts (but remains winless on the season)
and Jason Castro lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI at
Icewind Dale Corral where the Bay City Rollers beat the Neverwinter Alpacas in
10 innings by the score of 8 to 7.Both teams had scored 7 runs after nine
full innings. Bay City won it in the 10th inning. Carlos Correa drew a
walk. Robinson Chirinos was next and he
doubled, scoring the run. For the game
Bay City out-hit Neverwinter 16 to 8. The victory went to Scott Oberg(1-0) who
went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Trevor Gott recorded the save, his
3rd. Aroldis Chapman(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He
surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.
Game 2: Third baseman Yoan
Moncada collected 2 extra-base hits at Icewind Dale Corral as the Neverwinter Alpacas beat the Bay
City Rollers 5 to 3. John Means(3-2) pitched a solid game.
He allowed 4 hits and no walks in 5 innings. Neverwinter totaled 8 hits on
the night. Means got relief help from Giovanny Gallegos who gained credit
for his 2nd save. Yu Darvish(0-2) was the loser. He struck out 10 batters
in 7 innings despite losing the game.
Game 3: Jake Odorizzi had an impressive outing and Wil Myers
connected with a homer as the Bay City Rollers outscored the
Neverwinter Alpacas 7 to 0. Bay City tallied 6 runs in the 3rd
inning with the help of 5 hits. That early scoring held up. For the game Bay City
out-hit Neverwinter 10 to 5. Odorizzi(3-2) got the win, allowing no
runs in 6 innings. Bay City became the latest team to light
up former Bay City-ite Mike Minor, who took the loss and
fell to 0-6.
Game 4: In an exciting finish the Neverwinter
Alpacas pulled out a win over the Bay City
Rollers by a score of 8 to 7 at Icewind Dale Corral. For
the second time this season, Bay City had a pitcher thrown out
for beaning an opposing batter. Zack Britton was rushed into
the game without throwing a single warm-up pitch and proceeded
to give up a hit and then a game-tying grand slam by Realmuto.
Neverwinter won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th
inning. After an out was recorded,
Freddie Freeman hit a bases-empty home run resulting in an exciting
win for Neverwinter and a wild post-game celebration by the
home town fans. Neverwinter
banged out 8 hits on the night. Giovanny
Gallegos(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning
and allowing no runs. Trevor
Gott(2-1) suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run
and 1 hit without retiring a batter.
(12/17) Only two teams are over .500!
Oceanus visited Constantinople and marveled at the exact replica of the
Rehoboth Parking Lot. Feeling at home, the Assholes took all 4 games.
Three were nail-biters (including an extra innings affair) but the last
game was a relative laugher, although the Manatees finally started
hitting in the last three innings.
We did have an
ejection. After Nelson Cruz got injured for 2 games on a HBP, I
retaliated by hitting Mike Trout. Then in the 9th inning, protecting a
1-run lead, Asshole John Brebbia hit Will Smith, and Brebbia was tossed
from the game. 3rd ejection this year?
Here are the slightly-edited computer-generated game notes:
Game 1
In
an entertaining game at Building 19 Park (is that right?) the final
score was the Oceanus Assholes 8, the Constantinople Manatees 5. Trevor
Story provided much of the offense. He lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run in the 2nd inning and doubled bringing home two
baserunners in the 9th inning. Overall Oceanus out-hit Constantinople
14 to 6. The victory was credited to Stephen Strasburg (3-1)
who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs. Luis Castillo (1-2) ended up with
the loss. His ERA ballooned from 5.85 to 6.15 as he allowed 5 runs in 6
and 1/3 innings. WIth the win Oceanus now has a record of 14-7. With the loss, Constantinople
has a record of 5-5 lately, 10-7 overall.
Game 2
Matt
Olson smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Oceanus Assholes bested
the Constantinople Manatees in 13 innings 5 to 4 at Building 19 Park. Both
teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. Oceanus ended up
winning it in the 13th inning. After an out was recorded, Olson
delivered a solo blast. The Constantinople offense proved no trouble in
the bottom of the 13th. The winning pitcher was Cam Bedrosian
(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. J.B. Wendelken got the save, his
4th. Julio Urias (0-2) was the loser in relief. Oceanus
continued their winnings ways improving their record to a league leading
15-7. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With the loss
Constantinople now has a record of 10-8.
Game 3
Second baseman Jose Altuve went deep and had 2 RBI at Building 19
Park where the Oceanus Assholes beat the Constantinople Manatees 6 to 5.
Constantinople
was unable to climb back into it after Oceanus went ahead for good in
the top of the 6th inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. Oceanus had 10
hits overall, while Constantinople had 4. The victory went to Alex
Colome (1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. J.B. Wendelken earned
his 5th save. Stefan Crichton (1-1) was tagged with the loss
in relief. He allowed 3 homeruns in 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
Game 4
Anthony Rendon had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Oceanus Assholes beat the
Constantinople Manatees by a score of 12 to 6. Anibal
Sanchez (2-1) pitched well for Oceanus in their victory. He
surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings improving his ERA from 3.96
to 3.30. Oceanus had 17 hits overall, while Constantinople had 7.
Dakota Hudson (2-2) was hit with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 12
hits and 5 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Oceanus continued their winning
ways, with
their streak now at 6 games and counting.
Remember to send your schedule surveys back by Sunday.
(12/15) Eric
swept into 5th place, winning three blowouts and 1-0 in 11 innings. All
teams except Tom and Harold are now at the roster freeze. The latest
league file is above; after a discussion among Randy, Tom, Jed and I we
changed the league rules to add blocking the plate, which had been
inadvertently previously not included. However, doing so allows the
computer to give random PB, WP and balks (the only allowable PB and WP
for us are those generated from Catcher X plays). So, if you get one of
these random WP, PB or balks, just undo the play. It's the price to
pay for correctly having the blocking of the plate rule.
Anyway, here are the computer generated summaries from tonight's series. Eric may add his .02 tomorrow:
Game 1: The Haiku Aggression team put 5 runs on the scoreboard in the
1st inning and cruised to a 11 to 4 victory over the Bay City Rollers at
Fenway Park. Bay City found themselves trailing quickly as the Haiku
Aggression bats came through in the first inning when they tallied 5
runs on 2 hits. That early run support was enough for Justin
Verlander(2-0) and Haiku Aggression.
Haiku Aggression ended up with 12 hits for the game while Bay City had
9. Sam Dyson gained credit for his 1st save. The loss was charged to
Gerrit Cole(0-3). He surrendered 7 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.
Game 2: Nolan Arenado hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI as the Haiku
Aggression club defeated the Bay City Rollers by a score of 9 to 6 at
Fenway Park. Haiku Aggression drew first blood jumping out to an early
lead in the first inning as they scored 4 runs on 5 base hits. Haiku
Aggression had 18 hits for the night while Bay City had 8. Mike
Soroka(1-4) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Shane
Greene recorded the save, his 1st. Yu Darvish(0-1) suffered the loss.
He was knocked around by Haiku Aggression, allowing 15 hits and 4 walks
in 7 innings.
Game 3: Center fielder Ketel Marte collected 4 RBI with one swing of the
bat as the Haiku Aggression ballclub smashed the overmatched Bay City
Rollers, 20 to 2. Marte had a great evening at the plate. He caught a
hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun in the 2nd inning, tripled
bringing in two baserunners in the 4th inning and lashed a single in the
9th inning. Haiku Aggression provided plenty of action in the 2nd
inning with 7 runs on 5 hits and the 3rd inning which saw them plate 9
runs on 7 hits. Haiku Aggression had 18 hits overall, while Bay City
had 6.
The victory went to Jack Flaherty(3-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 2
runs. Jake Odorizzi(2-2) was the loser. He was knocked around by Haiku
Aggression, allowing 14 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
Game 4: Yordan Alvarez had 2 base hits as the Haiku Aggression ballclub
beat the Bay City Rollers in 11 innings by a score of 1 to 0. The
run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings.
Finally, Haiku Aggression pulled the game out in the 11th inning. After
an out was recorded, Alvarez doubled. Xander Bogaerts stepped up next
and he slapped a single. Ketel Marte then slapped a one-base hit
scoring the run. Haiku Aggression out-hit Bay City for the game, 7 hits
to 3. Pedro Baez(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2
innings. Brandon Workman got the save, his 1st. Jesus Luzardo(0-1) was
hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 1/3 innings giving up 4
hits and no walks.
(12/13) North
Dakota took over first place from CN tonight. In Game 1, Jake deGrom (4-0,
2.47) took a no-hitter into the 9th inning, before Harper hit a lead-off double
to break up the bid. Yelich (3 for 5), Soler, and Contreras homered to power
the Nuclear Warheads 12-1 in the rout.
Game 2 North Dakota took a 4-2 lead after 6 innings,
but the bullpen couldnt hold it. A homer by Escobar and 2-run pinch0hite single
by JD Martinez gave the Manatees a 5-4 lead after 7. Willson Contreras hit
a tying home run for North Dakota in the bottom of the 8th, and then in the
9th, Joey Gallo hit a pinch-hit walk-off double (Lindor sliding in on a 1-14
chance play at the plate) to win 6-5. Liam Hendricks pitched 2 scoreless
innings of relief for his 1st win.
The Manatees won game 3, 4-1, as Rodon, Walden, Neris, Taylor, Chrichton, and
Yates (3rd save) combined to hold North Dakota to just 6 hits. Biggio, Rizzo,
and Tatis all homered to power CN.
In game 4, Lance Lynn (4-0, 3.02) whiffed 10 batters as the North Dakota
Nuclear Warheads defeated the Constantinople Manatees by a score of 8 to 0 at
Gackle Park. Christian Yelich made sure the North Dakota fans enjoyed
themselves. He lofted a three-run bomb in the 4th inning, singled in the
6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. North Dakota had 10 hits for
the night while Constantinople had 7.
Dakota Hudson(2-1) was tagged with the loss. He couldn't find the strike
zone and allowed 8 walks in 4 innings.
Lynn was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my
pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans
really got
into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that
again in my next outing.'

Alpaca’s take 3 of 4 at New Orleans. Three blowouts, but the
final game was a nail biter.
The
Neverwinter Alpacas cruised to a 9 to 2 victory over the New Orleans Ellis at
Doc Ellis Field. Freddie Freeman was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans
as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense. He delivered a single
bringing in a run in the 1st inning, doubled in the 6th inning and lost the
ball over the fence for three runs in the 7th inning. Neverwinter
finished with 9 hits while New Orleans ended up with 6. The win went to
Charlie Morton(2-1) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Jon Gray(0-2) was tagged
with the loss. Neverwinter knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 6 runs
in 5 and 1/3 innings.
It
was a laugher out at Doc Ellis Field. The Neverwinter Alpacas squad
ripped New Orleans pitching for a total of 11 runs. John Means(2-2) with
effective use of the bullpen surrendered 2 runs to New Orleans. Means got the
win but did not look spectacular. He gave up 2 runs, 6 hits and 4 walks
in 5 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. Neverwinter finished with 17
hits while New Orleans ended up with 8. Sandy Alcantara(0-2) was the
loser. He served up 3 homeruns in his 9 nnings. With the win Neverwinter
now has a record of 7-11. With this loss, New Orleans has a 3-7 record of
late, 3-11, worst in the league overall.
Shortstop
Marcus Semien slammed a homerun and scored 3 times as the New Orleans Ellis
beat the Neverwinter Alpacas by a score of 9 to 4. Zack Wheeler(2-0) gave New
Orleans a solid outing. He allowed 4 hits and 1 walk in 5 and 2/3 innings
improving his ERA from 5.06 to 4.41. Both teams totaled 8 hits on the
night. Taylor Rogers recorded his 1st save. Mike Minor(0-5) was
given the loss. His biggest problem was control as he allowed 10 walks in
5 and 1/3 innings.
Second baseman Howie Kendrick
connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI at Doc Ellis Field where the
Neverwinter Alpacas beat the New Orleans Ellis 4 to 3. Neverwinter scored 2
runs in the decisive top of the 4th inning when they had 3 base hits. They
ended up being the winning runs. New Orleans went down without a fight in
the bottom of the 9th. Lucas Giolito(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing
2 runs in 5 innings. Giolito got relief help from Giovanny Gallegos who gained
credit for his 1st save. Sonny Gray(0-3) was hit with the
loss.
Oceanus
took 3 out of 4 at the Wax Dome. There were a few computer glitches but
we plowed through them. Had a catcher blocking the plate situation where
we had to fix it via manual entry, which took some time. But for the most
part, all the way until the 9th inning of game 4, it was a tense, close,
hard-fought series. Here are the slightly-edited computer-generated game
summaries.
Game
1
Nelson
Cruz slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at The Wax Dome where the Oceanus Assholes
beat Future Wax 5 to 3. Future Wax found themselves trailing quickly as the
Oceanus bats came through in the first inning when they tallied 4 runs on 5
hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Oceanus had 12
hits for the night while Future Wax had 7. The victory was credited to
Stephen Strasburg (2-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs. J.B. Wendelken
preserved the game for Strasburg, recording his 2nd save. Zack Greinke
(3-1) was the loser. He gave up 4 runs and 10 hits in 8 innings.
With this win, Oceanus has a 11-6 record. They have been 7-3
lately. With this loss, Future Wax has a 4-6 record of late, 11-10
overall.
Game
2. Chris Paddack retired 10 batters on
strikeouts at The Wax Dome as Future Wax won in dramatic fashion coming back to
beat the Oceanus Assholes by the count of 4 to 3.
Future Wax came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3
base hits. George Springer kicked off the action when he slapped a one-base
hit. Matt Chapman came next and he slapped a base-hit. Bryan Reynolds
then doubled giving Future Wax the win as 45,915 happy fans joyfully celebrated.
Future Wax banged out 8 hits on the night.
Felipe Vazquez (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Yusmeiro Petit (1-2) was hit with the loss in relief. 'What a game!,' Vazquez
said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't believe it!' This was
the game with the runner being pegged out at plate, thanks to Buster Posey's
outstanding defense. It was a 1-9 chance and I rolled a 9.
Game
3. Walker Buehler (2-0) and Marcus Stroman (2-2) dueled it out with Buehler and
the Oceanus Assholes coming out on top of Future Wax by the score of 2 to 1. Oceanus
came up with 1 run in the 3rd inning. That early scoring was all that Buehler
needed. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning. Buehler got
help from J.B. Wendelken who was credited with his 3rd save.
Game
4. Anibal Sanchez (1-1) with the aid of the bullpen handcuffed the Future
Wax batters at The Wax Dome in an evening game. The Oceanus Assholes
scored 6 runs for the win. In the 4th inning Oceanus went on top for good when
they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Max
Kepler who quieted the crowd when he cracked a two-run shot. Oceanus
rapped out 9 hits for the night.
Max Scherzer (2-2) was the losing pitcher. He struck out 13 batters in 8
innings despite losing the game.
(12/8) Pete
Alonso was a one-man wrecking crew, smashing 5 homers, two of which
were walk-offs, to go along with 8 rbis, as North Dakota beat FW 3 games
to 1 in the battle for second place.
Game 1 was a see-saw affair with 4 lead changes. C. Santana's homer
staked FW to a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th. Yelich and
B. Anderson doubled, Soler singled, and Lindor doubled to chase Greinke
and tie the game 6-6. In the bottom of the 9th, B. Anderson reached on
an error with 2 out and then Alonso smacked a 2-run HR off Brian Giles
for the exciting Nuclear Warheads' win.
Game 2 was 4-4 after 6 innings and stayed that way until the bottom of
the 11th. After two outs, Brian Anderson initiated the scoring spurt
when he doubled. Pete Alonso stepped up next and sure enough, he popped
a two-run walk-off clout giving North Dakota the win, much to the
delight of the home town crowd, which carried him off the field.
Future Wax pounded Patrick Corbin early and often in game 3 (homers by
Reynolds and Urias), but Pete Alonso's 2 homers off Scherzer kept the
game close. It was 8-6 after 6 innings, but Vazquez, Giles, and Lugo
(6th save) closed the door to hang on for the Wax 8-6.
In game 4, Clayton Kershaw carried a no-hitter into the 5th inning. But
then North Dakota brought 7 runs across the plate in the 5th inning
when they came up with 7 base hits. The highlight belonged to Paul
Goldschmidt who thrilled the crowd when he belted a three-run homer.
Alonso hit his 5th of the series on the next pitch. Lance Lynn (3-0)
pitched 8 innings, allowing just one run for the win. Final score 8-3.
Both Future Wax and the Nuclear Warheads are at the roster freeze.
(12/7) Tom cemented his hold on first place with a 3-1 series win over Bay City Sunday night.
Game 1 started with a rainout as Robin rolled a 1 and CN graciously let her roll again for a double 1 rainout. The Manatees went up early 5-1 after 5 and
Castillo hoped for a win behind homers by Devers and Donaldson. The
relief corps did not agree and the bottom of the eighth saw the bases
loaded and the 5-1 lead disappeared as Castellanos
hit a ball park homer grand slam 1-6 to tie it. Constantinople won the game in the 10th inning. Cavan Biggio led off and
got things going when he drew a walk. Mike Trout stepped up next and he
delivered a one-base hit. Two outs later Edwin Encarnacion came up and
he lofted a three-run 'big-fly'. The big
blow was probably Correa striking out and being injured for the next 4
games.
Game 2: BC went up 3-1 after 2, but CN came back with single runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th (2 Trout solo shots) and then put together a 3 run 8th and then traded runs going into the 9th. BC
got men on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and then the
computers decided to quit. Many tries to get the saved game going and
even a reboot before they could get the final out in and CN took game 2 ,
8-4.
Game 3: Not worth talking about as CN won 26-5.
Game 4: Started out a defensive struggle as Paxton
gave up 3 runs to be behind 3-1 after 5. Skaggs besides being dead got
tired after 5 innings and did not show any ill effects as BC went up
4-1 and CN was ineffectual losing 4-2.
(12/3) Hubris caught up to
North Dakota; bringing the keg onto the bench against erstwhile winless
New Orleans was a bad idea. What was not a bad idea was both managers
rebooting their laptops before playing. This helped lead to no computer
issues; the series was played in 2 1/2 hours despite 3 extra inning
games. Harold will let the computer write his Twits Notes:
Game 1: Christian Walker went yard and had 2 RBI as the New Orleans
Ellis defeated the North Dakota Meadowlarks in 10 innings 4 to 3 at Doc
Ellis Field. Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.
New Orleans won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning. Walker hit
a bases-empty home run making New Orleans victorious to the delight of
the the home town crowd. New Orleans finished with 8 hits in the
victory. Brad Hand(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3
of an inning. Reyes Moronta(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave
up 1 run and 2 hits in 1 inning.
Game 2: Kris Bryant connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the New
Orleans Ellis defeated the North Dakota Meadowlarks by a score of 9 to 4
at Doc Ellis Field. North Dakota was unable to recover after New
Orleans went ahead in the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits.
New Orleans finished with 15 hits while North Dakota ended up with 9.
Zack Wheeler(1-0) allowed 3 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. The loss was charged to Shane Bieber(2-2). New Orleans
knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 8 runs in 6 innings.
Game 3: Sonny Gray racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts and
Justin Turner connected with a 'big fly' at Doc Ellis Field where the
New Orleans Ellis beat the North Dakota Meadowlarks in 10 innings by the
score of 8 to 7. The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings.
New Orleans won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning. After an
out was recorded, Chris Taylor doubled. Kris Bryant was next to bat,
but he was a strikeout victim. Aaron Judge then drew a walk. Aaron
Hicks was up next and he reached on an error. Marcus Semien stepped
into the box and lined a base-hit giving New Orleans the win as 46,159
happy fans joyfully celebrated. Although they lost, North Dakota did
out-hit New Orleans 14 to 10.
The victory was credited to Taylor Rogers(1-0) who went 2/3 of an
inning, allowing no runs. Liam Hendriks(0-1) was the loser in relief.
He was the
victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
Game 4: Lance Lynn reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Doc Ellis
Field where the North Dakota Meadowlarks beat the New Orleans Ellis in
10 innings by the score of 1 to 0. The run-column was full of goose
eggs at the end of nine full innings. North Dakota came out on top in
the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Keston Hiura tripled.
Mookie Betts followed and he hit a single scoring the run. North Dakota
managed only 5 hits on the night. Reyes Moronta(1-1) was the winner
allowing no runs in 1 inning. Liam Hendriks recorded the save, his 2nd.
Tyler Duffey(0-1) was the loser in relief.
The North Dakota ballclub's record now stands at 10-6. With the loss, the New Orleans ballclub's record is 3-9.
(11/25) Twits Notes from Randy: Haiku > Aggression
In the first game, Verlander took a 4-run lead into the
bottom of the 7th. He retired the first two batters before giving up
a walk and single. In came Dyson, who gave up a double to Blackmon (pinch-hitting)
and back-to-back home runs to Voit and Chapman. Lugo’s two-inning save resulted
in a dramatic 6-5 win for the home team.
In game two, the disappointing season of Mike Soroka
continued, as he surrendered 7 runs on 10 hits and 3 walks in just 5 innings. Stroman
was only slightly better, yielding 5 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk over 6 innings. Neither
bullpen allowed a run, giving Future Wax a 7-5 win (with another Lugo save).
Side-note: Eric was plagued by injuries. Arraez went down in
game 2, and his replacement (Dickerson) was himself injured in game 3. Kelly
Carson was injured in game 3, and his replacement (Molina) was injured in game
4.
Flaherty’s strong performance in game 3 staked Eric to a 5-1
lead after 5. Dyson again played arsonist, giving up 2 runs 3 hits in the 7th,
but Baez shut the door with a 2-inning save, for a 5-3 HaikuAggression victory.
In the final game, Future Wax hammered Berrios (8 runs on 14
hits in 4 innings, including 3 tired singles). Kershaw had a rough 2nd,
giving up 4 runs on 3 consecutive home runs (Marte, Alvarez, Bogarts). But the
veteran kept his composure, and with help from the bullpen -- with Lugo
notching his third save of the series – as Future Wax held on for a 9-6 victory.
Despite the unfriendly confines
of the righty-slanted Wax Home
Eric’s lefty-stacked line up out homer FW 9-5. (Perhaps the ballpark
singles were more of a factor, as Randy out-hit Eric 42-37.)
Here are Twits Notes from Jed:
We
experienced a fair number of freeze ups and needed to restart the
games several times but ultimately it all worked out. In a
hard-fought series, Oceanus took 3 out of 4 at home against
Neverwinter. The series included a dramatic, back and forth extra
innings affair, two other one-run games and a laugher. Also, Ty
Buttrey was ejected for hitting Matt Olson. Here are the
slightly-edited computer-generated game summaries.
It really should have been a split. I won 3 1-run games,
including coming from behind absurdly multiple times in the extra
inning game. Ah, the vagaries of Strat-O.
Game 1.
Howie Kendrick left the yard and had 3 RBI and Charlie Morton
pitched 8 strong innings at Rehoboth Parking Lot where the
Neverwinter Alpacas beat the Oceanus Assholes 7 to 1. Morton was
in control of the game from the outset. He didn't give up much,
just 5 hits and no walks in 8 innings. Neverwinter ended up
with 8 hits for the game while Oceanus had 5. Stephen Strasburg
was tagged with the loss. He allowed 8 hits (but only 2 HR) and
7 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.
Game 2
Aaron Nola came through with a solid 5 innings as the Oceanus
Assholes topped the Neverwinter Alpacas by a score of 5 to 4 at
Rehoboth Parking Lot. Neverwinter was unable to claim the lead
after Oceanus went ahead in the 2nd inning when they came up
with 2 runs on 2 hits. The big moment was provided by injury
call up Jorge Alfaro who made the crowd come alive when he
doubled bringing home two baserunners. Neverwinter had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short. Nola was the winner allowing
no runs in 5 innings. John Brebbia got the save. John Means was
the loser. He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in 5 and 2/3
innings.
Game 3
Anthony Rendon, fresh off the disabled list, rocketed 2
homeruns and had 4 RBI at Rehoboth Parking Lot where the Oceanus
Assholes beat the Neverwinter Alpacas by the score of 9 to 8.
Rendon was a one-man wrecking crew. He bombed a two-run dinger
in the 1st inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 3rd
inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 6th inning.
Oceanus had 14 hits for the night while Neverwinter had 10. The
utterly unreliable Ryan Yarbrough went 1 and 2/3 innings
allowing 5 runs for the win. Yusmeiro Petit recorded the save.
Mike Minor was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by
Oceanus, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
Game 4
Catcher Mitch Garver, back from injury, knocked 2 homeruns
and had 4 RBI at Rehoboth Parking Lot where the Oceanus Assholes
beat the Neverwinter Alpacas in 12 innings 9 to 8. The score
was knotted at 8 after nine innings. Finally, Oceanus prevailed
in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Garver hit a
bases-empty home run giving Oceanus the win as 47,218 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. A wild affair, this game saw the lead
change 5 times. The mercurial and tired Ryan Yarbrough went 1
inning allowing no runs for the win. Tommy Kahnle was charged
with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 1 and
1/3 innings.
(11/24) It was a satisfying split especially after dealing with a computer game
issue for an hour. Long story short, Eric needed to re-install
Strat-O. Because during the original installation he chose Hi-Res
Ballparks. Which the Strat-O Tech Support guy told Eric to do. Even
though you need a special product code, which Eric didn't have. Ok,
long story not so short now.
Below are the
computer-generated game stories. Overall, as one might imagine, there
was a lot of hitting. For the series Haiku Aggression batted .309 with
13 HR while Oceanus batted .336 with 11 HR.
Game 1
Matt Olson cracked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI at Rehoboth Parking Lot
as the Oceanus Assholes beat Haiku Aggression16 to 11. Olson was
spectacular at the plate. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning, laced a single plating two runs in the 1st inning, delivered a
solo blast in the 2nd inning and singled in the 8th inning. Oceanus
kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning with 12 runs on 8 hits.
Haiku Aggression scored in 6 different innings, but their shaky pitching
kept them from victory.
Stephen Strasburg allowed 9 runs in 7
innings, and picked up the victory. Mike Soroka was hit with the loss.
He surrendered 3 homeruns in his 7 innings.
Game 2
Center
fielder Ketel Marte had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as Haiku
Aggression topped the Oceanus Assholes by a score of 6 to 3 at Rehoboth
Parking Lot. Oceanus never recovered after Haiku Aggression took the
lead in the 3rd inning with 2 runs using 4 hits. After an out was
recorded, Kolten Wong got things going when he laced a single. Luis
Arraez stepped up next and he lined a single. Xander Bogaerts then
laced a base-hit knocking in a run. Marte followed and he stroked a
single scoring the final run of the inning. Oceanus was out-hit by Haiku
Aggression, 11 hits to 7.
The win was credited to Jack
Flaherty who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs. Pedro Baez got the
save. The losing pitcher was Aaron Nola. He was unable to control the
Haiku Aggression offense and allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.
Game 3
Third
baseman Anthony Rendon slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Oceanus
Assholes defeated Haiku Aggression 8 to 5 at Rehoboth Parking Lot.
Walker Buehler earned his pay with a solid performance for Oceanus. He
allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings. Oceanus out-hit Haiku
Aggression for the game, 11 hits to 6.
Buehler got relief help
from J.B. Wendelken who gained credit for the save. Jose Berrios was
hit with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 5
and 2/3 innings.
Game 4
Haiku Aggression readily handled the Oceanus Assholes by a score of 10
to 6 at Rehoboth Parking Lot. Kyle Hendricks was solid if not
spectacular. He went 5 innings allowing
5 hits and no walks. Haiku Aggression banged out 14 hits on the night.
Anibal Sanchez was charged with the loss. He served up 4 gopher balls
in 5 innings.
(11/19)
The Alpacas won the series 3 games to 1 at the Corral. I am just using the write-ups from within the box scores....
Game 1: Alpacas win 7 - 6 in 10 innings
Center fielder Ronald Acuna rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Neverwinter Alpacas bested the Future Wax Candles in 10 innings 7 to 6 at Icewind Dale Corral.
The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Neverwinter won it in the 10th inning. Howie Kendrick kicked off the action when he delivered a solo blast. Acuna came
next and he stroked a base-hit. Acuna was safe on a stolen base. Yoan Moncada struck out, unable to help the rally. Alex Bregman came to the plate and lined a single making Neverwinter the victors to
the delight of the home town faithful. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.
Aroldis Chapman(1-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. The losing pitcher was Seth Lugo(0-1) in relief. He allowed 4 hits and no walks in
2 and 1/3 innings.
Game 2:
Alpacas win 5 - 4
One run was the difference at Icewind Dale Corral as the Neverwinter Alpacas defeated the Future Wax Candles 5 to 4.
Neverwinter came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The key at-bat was by C.J. Cron who thrilled the crowd when he smashed a two-run homer. Future Wax tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th. The win was credited to John Means(1-0) who went 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Tyler Clippard earned his 1st save. Brendan McKay(0-1)
was the losing pitcher. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Game 3: Future Wax wins 6
- 3
In a game at Icewind Dale Corral the Future Wax Candles offense put up 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 5th inning and got by the Neverwinter Alpacas by the score
of 6 to 3. Clayton Kershaw(1-1) had a fairly solid outing. He surrendered 8 hits and no walks in 6 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 3 homeruns. Felipe Vazquez pitched
a perfect ninth and was credited with his 1st save. Mike Minor(0-2) was charged with the loss. He struck out 11 batters in 7innings despite losing the game.
Game 4: Alpacas win 6 -
4
Second baseman Howie Kendrick had 2 base hits at Icewind Dale Corral where the Neverwinter
Alpacas beat the Future Wax Candles 6 to 4.
Lucas Giolito(1-0) had a steady outing. He surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. Neverwinter banged out 8 hits on the night.
Giolito was helped out by Tyler Clippard who recorded his 2nd save. Max Scherzer(1-1) was the losing pitcher. Despite losing, he struckout 11 Neverwinter
batters in 6 and 1/3 innings.
(11/15) It's
back to cards and dice in Holliston! Fast forward to the bottom of the
9th inning of game 3. Bay City is up 2-0, as the late Tyler Skaggs and
Trevor Gott are pitching a 5-hit shutout. There are two outs, nobody
on base. Mookie works a walk on a questionable call that looked like
strike 3. Pete Alonso also walks. Robin brings in Will Smith to face
Yelich. Yelich hits a walk-off 3-run homer.
Fast forward to the bottom of the 9th inning of game 4. Bay City has a
7-4 lead (Marte, Chirinos, Laureano the offensive stars for BC). ND
loads the bases with nobody out. Zach Britton comes in. Joey Gallo
pinch-hits. He rolls a Walkoff Grand Slam 1-14, double 15-20. Rolls a
15. Two runs come in. After two outs, Ramos walks to load the bases
again. 2 outs bottom of the 9th, tying run on 3rd, winning run on 2nd.
PH Niko Goodrum walks to tie the game. But Hiura strikes out against
Gott. In the 11th, Yelich's 2-base error scores Gurriel and Bay City
wins 8-7.
Game 1 was a great pitchers' duel between Cole and deGrom, scoreless
through 5. Mookie's 6th homer breaks a 2-2 tie in the 8th and ND wins
3-2.
Robin pounded her way to a game 2 9-4 win. Gurriel hit 2 homers,
Urshela and McNeil each hit home runs as well. Pitcher/OF Michael
Lorenzen (the poor man's Ohtani) calls a great game after being pressed
into duty as a catcher early on after Chirinos pinch hits for Castro and
is intentionally beaned and injured by ND. Hopefully he fares better in
his career than Dontrelle Willis after his time behind the plate.
--------------------------
Game 4 of the Tom-Eric series:Game 4: The Poets came out mean and hit Paxton up for 10 and they took
out Harper's injury replacement (Haniger) to force the worst corner
outfield defense in the history of CN to play the rest of the game.
After the top of the 6th, CN had clawed back into
the game to bring it to 10-8. Walden came in and gave up 4 runs with
two outs to put the game at 15-8 and it was all over but the cracker
jack. End 16-10, and CN was happy to get out of town as random
projectiles rained down on their bus and many moons passed
before they got to the airport.
Enjoy Thanksgiving!
(11/13)
New Orleans out-homered Oceanus but still managed to
get swept thanks to some bad luck at just the wrong time. 3 20s
on 1-19 ballpark singles did not help. Gleyber Torres errors also
did not help. Here are the game summaries. BTW not the smoothest
computer experience. The game froze or crashed a few times. It
did weird things with eligibles. We made it through though.
Game 1
Stephen Strasburg retired 10 batters on strikeouts at Rehoboth
Parking Lot where the Oceanus Assholes beat the New Orleans Ellis
by the score of 8 to 6. John Brebbia got the win with a nice
relief outing. He surrendered no hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3
innings. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Brandon Brennan ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered
1 run and 1 hit in 2 innings.
Game 2
In a one-sided affiar at Rehoboth Parking Lot the final score
was the Oceanus Assholes 12, the New Orleans Ellis 7. Anthony
Rendon was a one-man wrecking crew. He doubled bringing home two
baserunners in the 3rd inning, ripped a base-hit plating a run in
the 4th inning and belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning.
Oceanus out-hit New Orleans for the game, 15 hits to 8. The
winning pitcher was Aaron Nola who allowed 5 runs in 6 and 1/3
innings. Nola was helped out by Alex Colome who recorded the
save. Sonny Gray ended up with the loss. He was unable to
control the Oceanus offense and allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 4
innings.
Game 3
Nelson Cruz knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Oceanus
Assholes pulled out a win over the New Orleans Ellis by a score of
8 to 7 at Rehoboth Parking Lot.
The game was won by Oceanus when they scored a run in the 9th
inning. After an out was recorded, Cruz smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' giving Oceanus the win as 45,693 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change
hands 5 times. J.B. Wendelken was the winner allowing no runs in
1 inning. Brandon Kintzler was charged with the loss in relief.
He gave up 1 hit and no walks in 1/3 of an inning.
Game 4
In a thrilling finish the Oceanus Assholes won in dramatic fashion
coming back to beat the New Orleans Ellis by the count of 3 to 2.
Oceanus won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. Anthony Rendon led off the inning for
Oceanus when he lined a single. Matt Olson got his turn next, but
he was a strikeout victim. Trevor Story then singled. Nelson Cruz
followed and he doubled driving in a run. Brandon Nimmo came to the
plate and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Asdrubal
Cabrera dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Mitch
Garver was next and he reached on an error resulting in an exciting
win for Oceanus and a wild post-game celebration by the home town
fans. Oceanus had 8 hits overall, while New Orleans had 5.
Yusmeiro Petit got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Brandon
Kintzler was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 2 hits and no walks.
(11/8)
North Dakota swept into first place over hapless Neverwinter,
outscoring them 30-14 over 4 games. They cranked out 15 homers in the
series
against the beleaguered Alpacas, with 10 different hitters homering and 5 hitters with 2 homers.
Game 1 was never in doubt, as Mookie Betts hit two homers (upping his
league leading total to 5). deGrom pitched 7 innings of 5 -hit ball. ND
was up 8-1 before Neverwinter scored some meaningless runs late. Final
score 8-5.
Game 2 was the only close game and it was a rare pitchers' duel in this
year of the home run: At Icewind Dale Corral, the Neverwinter faithful
were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Shane Bieber(2-0) finally
bested his Neverwinter counterpart, John Means(0-1), by the score of 2
to 1. North Dakota took the lead for good in the top of the 3rd inning
on a Goldschmidt rbi. Liam Hendriks recorded his 1st save.
Alex Bregman was injured for the rest of the series in this game and that seemed to demoralize Neverwinter the rest of the way.
Game 3 was similar to game 1 as North Dakota ran up a 9-1 lead (thanks
to 2 HR's each by Goldschmidt and Contreras), into the late innings
before the Alpacas scored some meaningless late runs. Final score 9-4
I'll let the computer describe game 4: Left fielder Jorge Soler smashed 2
home runs as the North Dakota Meadowlarks beat the reeling Neverwinter
Alpacas by a score of 11 to 4. North Dakota jumped out to the early lead
in the first inning when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The highlight
belonged to Keston Hiura who
silenced the stadium when he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run. North Dakota dominated offensively as they scored in 6
different innings. The victory was credited to Lance Lynn(2-0) who went 7
innings, allowing 3 runs. Lucas Giolito(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He
served up 5 gopher balls in 5 innings.
------------
Robin wanted to a writeup of her game 3 with Randy that she
lost in extra innings: The third
game featured a great finish for the home crowd as Future Wax
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating Bay City by the count of
10 to 9. Starter Yu Darvish gave up 6 hits and 6 earned runs
(including 2 homers, the last of which chased him in the 7th and
gave FW the lead), striking out 11. In came Zack Britton who
walked the bases loaded and walked in a run without recording an
out. But an Ozzie Albies 3-run homer in the top of the ninth
(?--I don't have the box score, so some of this is from memory)
gave BC back the lead, 9-6. In the bottom of the ninth Trevor
Gott imploded, giving up a game tying homer to Springer and
becoming tired. Lorenzen took the hear-breaking loss for BC, in
a series filled with errors (or singles on 1s) by normally good
fielders on both teams.
Future Wax scored the winning runs in the
9th inning scoring 4 runners on 3 hits. The key at-bat was by
George Springer who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when
he launched a game-tying three-run homer. This was the kind of
game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 6 times.

Housekeeping: If your Strat-O keeps crashing before games, reboot your
laptop(s). In fact you should consider doing that before you even
play. It fixed the Robin-Randy series after an hour delay of freezes
and it helped Jed and I with a similar issue last year. The issue is
that Strat-O needs a lot of memory to load and if your laptop hasn't
been rebooted in awhile, it has too much memory in its cache to be able
to share with Strat-O. Rebooting clears out this memory cache.
Computer Strat-O thanks you.
(11/3) New Manager Sam came to visit Building 19 ballpark in COVID plagued Constantinople, FL.
Game 1: Luis Castillo gave up a first inning run while loading the bases and hitting Josh Bell in the a**. He came out and gave up another 2 runs in the second and it looked like a long night for the Manatees against Morton. But the Manatees were able to get 3 runs to tie it after 4. Morton then just lost it facing the top of the order in the fifth hitting Biggio and being warned by the Umpire, grounding out Trout and then nailing Devers in the head clearing the benches. Devers was injured for 2 games and Morton hit the showers. There would have been more ejections but the players were wearing masks and the Umpires could not figure out who else to throw out. Both starters were long gone in the 7th when Biggio again lead off, this time with a single, Trout followed with a single and eventually a SF from Donaldson proved the difference in the game 4-3 for CN.
Game 2: Manatee came out hot scoring 6 runs to send Means to the showers, but in the battle of the lefties the Alpacas came back scoring 4 in the top of the 3rd to tie the game. Manatees were able to get a lead in their half of the inning to settle in for a 7-6 game. Then Freddy Freeman happened. He pinch hit in the 6th and hit a home run and then hit another one in the 8th and 9th to go 3-3 with 6 RBIs as the Alpacas pulled away trouncing the Manatees 17-9 on 7 home runs. Manatees hit their first of the season by newcomer Edwin Encarnacion. Tauchman was injured in the 8th for 2 games, but on a K so it was not retaliation...
Game 3: Now that they understood how it was done, the Manatees came out and hit 7 homers to propel themselves to a 13-3 blowout as the teams exchanged blow outs. Howie Kendrick tripped running down to first after being hit by CN (a tired Bradley curve ball) and took the rest of the game off but never left the bench and was available for the next game.
Game 4: Donaldson hit a grand slam in the first inning to try and steal a 3-1 series victory, but the Alpacas scored 2 in the second and then 5 over two innings to go up 7-5 going into the bottom of the 5th in which CN hit 3 homeruns to get the game to 9-7 CN. Alpacas tied it with 2 in the 7th and then went ahead 10-9 in the top of the 8th. Kolarek came in to face Devers and Haniger came in to hit a pinch hit ball park homer to tie the game at 10-10. CN held on to get to the bottom of the 9th: (from the boxscore)
Constantinople scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Eduardo Escobar drew a walk. Roberto Perez followed next and he laced a
single, and an error was also committed. Fernando Tatis Jr dug into the
batters box next, but he struck out. Cavan Biggio followed and he drew a
walk to load the bases. Mike Trout stepped into the box and drew a walk
resulting in an exciting win for Constantinople and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw
the lead change 5 times.
Kirby Yates(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Aroldis Chapman(0-1) took the loss in relief.
10 home runs were hit in game 4 and Sano is out for 10 (err 4) games after being Ked in the 2nd and Mancini is out for 2 games when CN retaliated in the 5th.
There will be a lot of runs scored this year in Florida....
(11/1/20) Future Wax opened
the season with a sweep over New Orleans. FW outscored NO 31 to 6,
and out-homered them 12 to 5. The series star was Mark Chapman, who
homered 3 times in 9 at bats.
In game 1, Future
Wax had very little trouble at Ellis Field downing New Orleans. The
score was 8 to 1. Zack Greinke(1-0) gave Future Wax a solid outing.
He went 8 innings and surrended up 6 hits and no walks. Future Wax
managed 9 hits in their victory. The losing pitcher was Sonny
Gray(0-1). He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks.
Game two was the
most exciting of the series. Future Wax topped New Orleans by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3. The game was decided in the 8th inning.
After two outs Matt Chapman blasted a
solo shot. Seth
Lugo earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 1st save. Max
Scherzer (1-0) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory.
Brandon Kintzler(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief.
In game three,
David Freese went deep, powering Future Wax to a 7 to 2 victory.
Marcus Stroman (1-0) had a solid outing for Future Wax. He went 7
innings surrendering 6 hits and 1 walk. Future Wax managed 10 hits
in their victory. Jon Gray(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He was
touched for 3 homeruns in his 7 innings of work.
They almost ran
out of baseballs at Ellis Field as Future Wax clobbered
the New Orleans pitching staff, scoring 12 runs to close out the
sweep. Brandon Woodruff (1-0), with
relief help from Robert Stephenson, shutout New Orleans.
George Springer had a big evening at the plate.
He launched a 3-run homer in the 5th
inning, smacked a single in the 7th inning and slapped a base-hit
which plated a run in the 8th inning. Future
Wax had 12 hits overall, while New
Orleans had 4. Sandy Alcantara (0-1) was given the loss. He got hit
pretty hard, allowing 12 hits and 5
walks in 9 innings.
.....
Meanwhile,
goon Bay City pitcher Zach Britton became the first
SOMBILLA pitcher ejected after hitting a batter. Nick
Anderson came in and gave up a grand slam to the next
batter; Robin's only blemish on the day. Gerrit Cole struck out 7 batters in a row and 15
in 6 innings. Jed was ahead in all 4 games and lost 3 by 1 run.
Ah, the vagaries of Strat-O-Matic Baseball....
